Hey everyone,
How’s your week going? Did you get any snow? We sure did! Now I hear it’s not much when you compare it with all the snow my friends have been getting in the States, but for this area it’s rather uncommon. At the very least, it hasn’t been happening in the last 10 years that we lived here! Who knows, maybe next year we’ll get a couple FEET of snow!
I have been having a great time playing in all of the snow although all this white stuff everywhere makes it a bit hard for me to hide. I mean I was trying to hide behind that tree limb in the photo below–I mostly have myself covered, don’t you think? Just had to keep myself away from the camera!
Not only has it been snowing a lot but it’s also been really windy. And I love the way the wind feels as it tussles my hair. Heaven! It’s one of the only times I really feel truly cooled. A good icy wind manages to penetrate my undercoat pretty well while a cool breeze doesn’t even make an impact. Add the little snow and ice crystals in with the wind and it’s like a doggie ice massage.
The one bad thing about all this snow and ice is that my paws are taking a beating. All the salt on the street really dries them out and if we’re out walking while there’s still lots of fresh, unpacked snow on the ground, my paws collect it and create big ice balls between my toes. It is SO uncomfortable. I usually just stop and dig them out myself but sometimes the humans take pity on me and try to help. Honestly, there is no way that their cold hands are going to melt the snow in my paw as good as my mouth does! But I do appreciate their concern.
Dad mentioned something about making me some neoprene booties or ordering some. The Domestik Goddess made some fleece booties for her Greyhound and they’re pretty cool. Hopefully they will stay on my paws, not make me look like a dork and maybe also help keep me from slipping on the icy streets too. It’s so embarrassing when I slip! I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes…and just how big these suckers had to be for a Newfie paw!
What do you do to keep your paws from turning into ice balls or to combat icy patches? Do you have booties? Or just get a paw rub down afterwards with some extra special lotion or salve?
