Want to achieve this look on your dog’s face and make him or her LOVE eternally? I have the answer πŸ™‚

Make your dog frozen yogurt treats. It’s really that simple!

There has been a lot of discussion lately across several of the dog blogs I read about dog ice cream and making your own Frosty Paw treats. This is an idea I have always loved for dogs but never tried out myself…until last week. Nanook posted a recipe but I’ve modified it a bit to make it easier.

Homemade Doggie Ice Cream

32 oz plain yogurt (I use low fat bio yogurt)
A few tablespoons of creamy peanut butter
Frozen or fresh banana slices, strawberries, blueberries, apple slices, orange slices, pineapple slices, whatever you dog will eat….

  1. Pour the yogurt into a large mixing bowl and add the spoonfuls of peanut butter. Stir with a spoon or fork until the peanut butter is mixed throughout. You could also use a blender for this but I find it mixes in quite well without one and then I don’t need to clean the blender later.
  2. Assemble containers which are freezer-safe and would hold about one portion of ice cream. Ayla’s portion is about 1 cup, give or take. I also prefer containers that can be stacked in the freezer since we don’t have much space in there as it is. I had some small plastic boxes from IKEA that came with a set of larger boxes. I never used the small ones until I realized they were just the right size for the Newf…
  3. Throw a few pieces of fruit into the bottom of the container (I put just about enough to cover the bottom) and then spoon some of the yogurt mix on top of the fruit.
  4. Close the lid and pop in the freezer for a few hours.
  5. Take them out when solid, run a bit of warm water over the container to loosen the ice cream from the plastic and let your dog enjoy! You almost always want to feed these outside, by the way, since they can get very messy.
