Hello my dear woof-tastic friends,

I hope you’ve been doing well. I wonder if you’re also feeling the need to sleep longer during the mornings like me? We’ve gone from early morning sunrises before 6am to well after 7am and I have to say I really appreciate the opportunity to catch up on some much needed sleep. Mackenzie has been keeping me busy with her walnut games and I have to give her tons of kisses during the day because she’s just so cute, plus always trying to watch out for her and not knock her down with my tail…it’s a full time job. But some dog has to do it…

While we’re on the subject of walnuts, they’re starting to ripen around here and I have to admit that I am a HUGE FAN of them. You might recall I even put them on my Christmas wish list last year. But mom squashed the idea, saying that nuts are bad for dogs and blah, blah, blah. So I just resorted to grabbing them from the neighbor’s driveway when we walked by every morning.

This year, though, there is a whole new spin on the walnut issue. Mom has actually been collecting the walnuts that fall down on the street at the neighbor’s house (they never pick them up so we figure it’s fair game) and has been using them in our fall decorations. But Mackenzie found out that these “nahts” make awesome toys. Especially when you have a couple of Tupperware containers that you can migrate them back and forth between.

Now you might be wondering how all this eventually becomes a positive for me. And I’ll tell you. At some stage, Mackenzie either gets frustrated with the nuts or simply tries to put too many of them into a really small container. So when they begin to spill all over the floor, I just casually stroll by, scoop up one or two nuts in my mouth and go off to a corner so I can eat the nuts.

Sometimes mom uses her supersonic hearing and she actually hears me picking the walnuts up, despite my stealth-like approach. Maybe it’s because I usually try to grab two of them at once and she can hear the knocking together. Other times she just sees me and my guilty face. So then she calls out my name and I’m obliged to drop the nuts where I’m standing and abandon them. But I did manage to sneak out of the house with one yesterday and happily chomped away on it as we were getting ready for our evening walk. It was heavenly! Those all natural nuts are way tastier than the wildly old walnuts I was stealing out of mom’s candle decorations last year. 😉

Anyway, that’s the excitement of fall that is currently filling my days. Is it fall where you are too? Have leaves started changing and falling? We have some changing going on, but lots of falling. It’s so fun to play and crunch in the leaves when we go for a walk!

Hope you’re having a great week!

Kisses,

Ayla
