After this morning’s renovation depression it seems we are making a bit of headway.

A trip to Hornbach and then on to Hagebau gave us enough supplies to continue with some of our projects not dependent on Macky and after just a few more hours of work we are feeling much better already.

We began with bricking out the window so it would match the layout of the room. Thankfully we ended up being lucky and found bricks which are exactly the size we needed – a big coincidence actually, as we didn’t take that into account when planning out the room.

When we first planned the room we had talked about dropping that window all together, but even making it smaller already blocks a lot of light from the room. The single bricks on top of each other is not normally the best way to go given stability, but with mounting brackets above every brick we think the new bricks will be strong enough to hold permanently.

Given that the fit of the window was expected to be very snug, we decided not to wait until the mortar dried to at least prop the window frame in place. It fit perfectly! Just a little nudging was required to set the window frame perfectly level.

Tomorrow, after the mortar has dried we can screw the frame into place and we will have another big step of construction finished. Then it’s on to more bricking as we plan on finishing the wall for the walk in closet as well. That will be a major piece of work and most likely very exhausting – but now that we have renewed strength and enthusiasm.
