You may recall me posting about the Canine Cooler we purchased a few months back for Ayla when it was really warm around here. I placed it in the kitchen where it was mostly out of the way but Ayla didn’t show much interest in it. When we got our Christmas tree this year, I needed to move the bed out of the way so I put it in the entry way where Ayla sleeps at night. Who would have guessed that she now lays on it all the time!?
Of course her interest in it may have something to do with the funky moldy smell on it that I can’t seem to get rid of. I’ve sprayed it down with antibacterial spray which seemed to squelch the smell a bit…but it’s come back again. I smelled inside the bed but the water in there doesn’t seem to smell so I guess it’s the underside that’s really the problem…and perhaps the top when Ayla lays on it and she’s damp. There was a small leak from the valve for a while so I guess that may have caused this problem.
At any rate, I’m thrilled she’s using the bed at least once a day. She actually sleeps on it most nights which is really great. I think it’s not only the coolness she enjoys but the fact that it’s much softer than the floor. Now if I can just keep the smell from transferring onto her, things would be great!
Hey Ayla!
I have an award for you. Take a look at my blog, January 12th. It’s the You Make My Day Award!
I’m giving it to you guys because you make my day!
Big WOOOOFS and waggins,

Hi Cub!
Thanks for the nice award!! I’m so honored – woohoo! And after I’ve been away from chatting so long. Gosh that’s sweet.
So now I’m up…better watch out doggies, here I come! π
Newfie kisses,
Ayla

Hey, Ayla! Try rubbing alcohol to get rid of the smell. Listerine may also work (any mouthwash). THe stuff to kill mold from shower stalls will work, too, but some chemicals may destroy the material. Good luck!
Thanks for that advice guys! My mom is a bit hesitant about using something too chemical since I have my bones laying on there all the time and sometimes lick the cool bed myself…but she was reading earlier today that tea tree oil will also kill mold and that should be safe for me (she thinks but will further research she’s telling me) so maybe that will do the trick!

The TT oil will be hard to get out – the alcohol will evaporate and can be rinsed away. But you would have to keep the dog away until it was clean π
Ah yeah, keeping the dog away – that will then require the hubby to be home too – or locking the dog outside. π They sure do make the little tasks more exciting don’t they? lol
