I know you’re used to seeing my YouCapture contributions on Thursdays, but Beth gave us the assignment of capturing what we ate. Now that would have meant getting in photos of Thanksgiving treats for most…but since we’re here in Germany there they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, we gather our friends together on Saturday to feast. So as I read Beth’s post this morning (yeah, I’mย  a bit behind after all the cooking), I decided to go ahead and link up, even though I’m probably later than most. ๐Ÿ™‚

This is one of the first years that I have actually remembered to take a few photos of the food…I didn’t get it all but maybe I will get a few decent shots of the leftovers! Most of the time, when we’re ready to eat, I’m so starved that I completely forget about the camera.

Cream cheese corn…one of my all time favorite Thanksgiving dishes that my mom has made since I was a little kid. I’m always a bit surprised about how much other people enjoy it too — it’s definitely always one of the first dishes to disappear every year. And I think Mackenzie ate her own weight in it this year ๐Ÿ™‚

And then there was the insanely huge portion of stuffing/ dressing I made this year. We had so much old bread in our freezer that we may have gone a bit overboard…but we love stuffing and I actually ended up freezing a pre-done portion of it (before cooking) so we’ll see how that works out too. Our guests always seem to totally love it and considering how easy it is, I don’t know why I don’t find more reasons to make it during the year.

Here’s what at least part of our table ended up looking like with our paper leaves, a few real leaves I found on the ground while walking with Ayla and Mack, and some dried fruit slices and cinnamon sticks that I bought last year for half price in the Christmas clearance sales. I think it turned out really nice in the end.

On Thursday when the rest of the world was gobbling down turkey, we were feasting on chocolate zucchini muffins…

and pasta with fresh mozzarella (recipe to come) while we took a break from opening Mackenzie’s enormous pile of birthday gifts.
