Ayla’s Awesome Assays Vol. 2
Another week, another list of searches glass ayla myspace I’m not sure what that means. But Ayla does have a MySpace page. I don’t think there are any mentions to glass though…maybe it has something to do with the band? keeping Newfoundlands from playing in water dish Good luck with that. When Ayla was just a few weeks old her brothers would actually sleep with their heads on the... read more

Playing the umbi-game
Way back in June 2006 I posted a list of “mind games” from M. Shirley Chong which can be used to help train your dog. These “games” are basically a way for you to remind your dog that you are in control and that he/she needs to remember that. Game #7 is called Follow the Leader. In this game, you attach your dog’s leash to your belt or around your waist for an hour. The dog is... read more

Why the cats don’t like her
I think I have finally figured it out. The cats don’t dislike Ayla because she’s loud or slobbers a lot…or even because she wants to play with them and is always dirty….I think they believe she is an animal killer. Our cats have been really holding their ground lately and at the moment they are BOTH in the room next to my office. This is really a major thing because they don’t... read more

Words I Know
Hi Guys, It’s Ayla again…I borrowed the computer from my humans and saw a really cool post from Nanook the awesome Newfoundland. He listed all the human words he knows and I thought I would join in the fun. I would like to state for the record that although I know what these words mean, it in no way requires that I actually do what is being requested. I can play dumb with the best of them. ... read more

Home at last
We’re back from our short vacation in Switzerland. All in all, Ayla did great and we were really happy that she was so relaxed during the trip. She slept during a major portion of the ride home and has slept a lot the few hours we have been home which we expected after all the excitement of the past few days. She did quite a bit of hiking with us and had a lot of stress going in and out of the truck... read more

He’s lost the couch forever
Sometime last week, Ayla started jumping up on the sofa with her daddy. It’s a big sofa so he let her stay up there…mostly because he’s just a sucker for her looks. This was an on and off process. She wasn’t trying it every day but she was usually getting away with it…and she now seems to think that she belongs there. The funny thing is, she doesn’t go for the sofa if... read more

She got us again!
I’m almost ashamed to admit it, but Ayla actually managed to steal a steak from us again. Talk about the shame lol. Wasn’t it bad enough that she got us on two other occasions already? (read here and here) We were grilling again on Monday night and decided to take the opportunity to train Ayla at the same time. We were watching her extremely closely, making sure she didn’t even sniff at... read more

Escape-o strikes yet again
Just when I started to think I could trust her again, I was quickly informed just how stupid that idea really was. Over the past few days, I have been letting Ayla spend more and more time outside unattended. The lengths are not too long in my opinion but certainly better than she was getting with going out, doing her business and immediately coming back in. So today, I looked out the window after... read more

I found the source…
For the past few days, Ayla has been breaking out of the backyard and going to visit the neighbors. I wasn’t quite sure how she was accomplishing it but I thought she was jumping over the small fence by the back door. But I was rather surprised that I never heard or saw her do this since I usually sit about 10 feet from the back door and can see at least part of the back fence from here. But today I... read more

The Great Houndini Strikes Again
As I type this, Ayla is running laps around the house. Normally she is not quite so wound up in the morning and I thought that since she got to play with a group of 6 dogs this morning that she might be a bit tired but apparently I was very wrong about that. On our walk this morning (which was quite cold in my opinion and I think I did still see some front on the grass – it’s only 47 here now... read more
