Adding new Christmas decorations
It’s a bit hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner. But when you look around in shop windows and sales fliers, there is no denying that the advent season is upon us. Two weekends ago, we heard about a small local hobby market that was offering wreaths and other decorations. Christmas is by far our favorite time of year and we sort of feel that it’s never too early to bring out... read more

Reclaiming things for Mack’s room
Mack inherited a ton of stuffed animals from me that have been carried all across the US and now to Germany. Some of them (like the gigantic tigers) are new and others are just loaners (like the huge white polar bear whose name is Norman and has been our marriage counselor since we started dating — if something goes wrong, it’s the bear’s fault!) I had all the bears and animals... read more

Getting rid of the media case chaos
When Stefan and I first started dating (a million years ago) one of the first things we bought together was the entire collection of James Bond DVD’s. And we didn’t even have a DVD player. You remember those days right…when only about one-quarter of the world had DVD players and the rest of us were just waiting for them to drop below $200 finally? Cause for a poor, starving college... read more

The new living room and Gapseal
You might recall that I was gabbing about our living room remodel on Thursday. I am happy to say that it is mostly complete (aside from hooking up a few things like our media PC and Wii, and putting a few more things away) and it is fabulous! Now we just need a whole bunch of new frames and prints of photos we’ve taken to put in them! Before we started moving everything around, I asked... read more

Have you missed me?
Wow. Is it Friday yet?? It’s been a wildly productive week for me here…but unfortunately not on NOH, as you’ve probably noticed. It wasn’t that I wasn’t thinking of stuff to write…I just really didn’t have the time. We’re in the middle of two projects here. One involves my internet marketing company because I’m in the middle of launching a new fairly... read more

Mudroom shelves make all the difference
Last week I mentioned that we finally filled in the wall cracks where our electrical cables are laid. That little project only took us about 2 hours to complete…but we needed about a year to get around to actually doing it. Please forgive my poor photography below. Since it was a nice 4-day weekend here in Germany, we were looking for a project to do. There was a high likelihood that it would rain... read more

Finally giving the mudroom some more love
This past weekend the weather here was pretty iffy; quite chilly and raining off and on…so we decided to tackle a project inside that has been looming over us for years. In fact, it’s been almost two years since we last did any major work in our mudroom…which is a shame because we walk through that room every day and I’m probably in there 10-20 times a day, even when I’m only... read more

More canning jars for the collection
“Did you know they’re giving away 1 & 2 liter canning jars at your farmer’s market right now?” “Uh no,” we responded to Stefan’s father as we sat enjoying dinner last night. “Yeah, they had a sign up when I was up there earlier and I forgot to mention it.” So once again we have lucked into free canning jars. We ended up with about fifty 1.5 and 2... read more

Decorating with your bush & shrub trimmings
Spring has sprung in Germany and the weather this week has simply been GLORIOUS! We’ve had highs in the 60′s and 70′s…and this weekend it’s supposed to be up to 80F. Hard to imagine that spring is truly here after our -18C winter – but hopefully this lovely start to spring is just a taste of what is to come. We deserve it! The trees, bushes and shrubs are in full bloom... read more

Looks a bit American…
So my MIL & FIL were standing outside our house the other day and an older lady was walking by. She stopped to chat and mentioned that the decorations on the house looked really nice, “although they are a bit American. Not that that is a bad thing.” We got a good laugh from that comment and I guess I have to agree; but I don’t take any offense. American’s still usually make an... read more
