{Garden Life} Roasting Pumpkin Seeds
Garden Life is a day early this week for several reasons. One is that it’s Thanksgiving and two is that Mackenzie is turning 3 tomorrow. So my Friday is going to be SUPER busy as I prepare for our turkey dinner on Saturday and celebrate a bit with our little girl. Hence the change. Next week, it will be back to the regularly scheduled programming. Earlier today, I shared how to make your very own... read more

Make your own pumpkin puree
Be sure to stop over at my latest giveaway for a chance to win $25 worth of natural, organic and gluten-free baking products of your choice! To me, Thanksgiving is not officially Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie. There were several years here in Germany that we just let Thanksgiving day slip by, cooking something traditionally American for the day, but not really going to all the trouble. And a few times,... read more

10 Things I’m Thankful For In 2011
Since Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching (and I’m going to be running around like the Tazmanian Devil for a few days), I thought I should take a few calm moments to write about the things I’m thankful for in my life. Most of these are things that I’m blessed to experience and think almost every day — but we sometimes take things for granted when we get all caught up in the... read more

Ten Steps to a Happy Thanksgiving
I know it’s hard to believe, but Thanksgiving is literally just around the corner. I kind of hyperventilated a little when went on eBay yesterday and it said 47 days until Christmas! With only 16 days left until the main turkey event, now is the time to start planning. Don’t wait until the very last minute so you’ve got to fight your way out of the store with the last box of Stove Top or... read more

Capturing Thanksgiving
I know you’re used to seeing my YouCapture contributions on Thursdays, but Beth gave us the assignment of capturing what we ate. Now that would have meant getting in photos of Thanksgiving treats for most…but since we’re here in Germany there they don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, we gather our friends together on Saturday to feast. So as I read Beth’s post this morning (yeah,... read more

Last minute Thanksgiving table project
I was skimming through a few of the blogs I haunt and over on Going Home to Roost, Bonnie threw out an idea which I really thought would be fabulous for our Thanksgiving Day table. I have a few more days to get this all pulled together since we’re not having the big turkey dinner until Saturday, but if you’ve got older kids joining you, this is something you could have them work on as well... read more

10 Things I’m Thankful For
This will probably be the top ten Tuesday topic of the week, but I’d say that it’s pretty darn important for us to all take a few moments and reflect on the things that we are thankful for in our lives. Unfortunately life gets hectic and we forget to be grateful for so many things on a daily basis…so if we at least acknowledge how thankful we are once a year, we don’t let those... read more

Thanksgiving Game Plan
Preparing for an event as massive as Thanksgiving requires some dedication and planning. Whether you are going to prepare your food completely from scratch or only partially, you need to make sure you have enough time to get it all done and consider how many dishes need to use the oven, what can be prepped ahead of time and when you want dinner on the table. Large meals like Thanksgiving put a lot of... read more

Dude, where’s your turkey? How to avoid stress on Thanksgiving Day
Believe it or not, next Thursday is Thanksgiving. Are you prepared? Thanksgiving can be an insanely stressful day for those doing all the cooking, but you don’t have to let it become your worst nightmare. With a little planning and the acknowledgement that sometimes you just can’t do it all alone, this can still be a stress-free day. Here’s a couple tips: Make lists for yourself so you... read more

Two Meals – One Bird
I finally tried another of the meal plan recipes I’d wanted to experiment with for a whole roast chicken with herbed mushrooms. The recipe was quite simple (once I figured out what exactly was supposed to be tied where on the chicken) although a whole chicken always takes 3 hours or so in our oven instead of 1.5 which can be a bit disappointing when you’re really hungry. I used double as much... read more
