Getting ready to go

We’ve packed up our climbing gear and most of the stuff for the dog. I’ve also started packing my travel and overnight bags but hubby is waiting until we go to bed….which will be very shortly. We’re planning to get up at about 5 am and hope to be on the road by 6. We’ve got about 7 hours of driving ahead of us tomorrow so we’re thankful that the Defender has very... read more

Is spring here yet?

Today the weather here is absolutely wonderful. It could be a bit warmer I guess but the sun is shining, there aren’t too many clouds in the sky and it makes you really feel that spring is just around the corner. I know it’s much too soon to begin thinking that the winter could indeed be over already here in Germany…but a girl can dream, right? I took advantage of the weather and... read more

Fall has arrived and my Newf looks like my Defender?

We spent a majority of the weekend working at the new farmhouse, cleaning out all the trash we made when we more or less destroyed our bathroom last weekend and starting to throw away some of the scrap wood which was piled up in the barn. Ayla always seems to sleep for hours straight when we come back from there. I don’t know if she simply can’t sleep while we’re working or if it’s... read more

“Mission” Update – Pimp my Defender

In terms of the car most things we wanted to accomplish are complete. The roof rack and snorkel where already attached when we picked the truck up and we have added a safety features such as the undercarriage protection and then bumperettes ourselves. Meanwhile we have tested the truck on long haul drives on the highway, state roads, back roads and the occasional rural route and even off-road. The truck... read more

Heading to the Lago Maggiore

It is Easter and time to start our trial road trip from Darmstadt, Germany, to Locarno in Ticino, Switzerland, on the shores of beautiful Lago Maggiore for the Easter weekend. We had the idea of visiting Locarno after reading about the Maggia Valley and its amazing climbing areas in a new German rock climbing magazine called “Climb”. Another major criteria was the distance: roughly 600km from... read more

Adding to the Defender

Well, the first roadtrip is behind us and we have decided that there is a few more things the truck needs. So when Saturday morning came around Stefan and I headed up to Wiesbaden, as we had heard about an offroad outfitter specializing in Defenders up there. Getting to the place we where blown away. There must have been at least a dozen old Defenders and Series Land Rovers standing around ready for... read more

Vosges Road Trip – Day 2

Home Sweet Home!!! After almost 1000km in two days we have finally returned home. The second day of this trip was almost more fun than the first and the sights and landscapes of this beautiful region just kept blowing us away. We started the morning with a huge breakfast served in our Hotel. It was a typically French affair with Cheese, Jambon, Croissants and Baguettes. Feeling stuffed we decided it would... read more

The first real road trip – Vosges

Today we launched on our first real road trip with the new defender. It was fantastic. Stefan and I left our home this morning with our friend Jenny. We headed to the french boarder and with some confusion in Sarbrücken finally found the direction we needed. It’s truly amazing how quickly the scenery changes after leaving Germany. After just a few quick turns the houses started to look a lot more... read more

The Defender is finally here!!!

After a wait that seemed way too long and a change in contract last week which allowed us to choose a vehicle more suited for our needs we finally received our Land Rover Defender 110 today. The truck is equiped for some serious road tripping and also off road tripping. The defender we finally chose for Lifted Magazine’s road trips is a 2005 Land Rover Defender 110 S in Bonatti Grey. Additional gear... read more

Scandinavia Trip taking shape

Stefan and I just met up with our good friend Steffen who will drive the second car on our 2006 Scandinavia trip. We will join him and his girlfriend Steffi at the Oktoberfest tonight, a Munich tradition taking place every year between the middle of september and the first weekend in October. Steffen is looking into buying a VW bus camper conversion and is finalising plans to make the purchase. Planning... read more
