10 incredible (and free) resources for baby signing
We started using baby sign language with Mackenzie when she was about 6 months old and I think it was one of the best ideas we ever had. Not only could she understand us very early on, but she started signing back to us when she was about 12 months old…and to be able to understand what your child wants and needs that early on in life is really incredible. There were far fewer tantrums because we... read more

More free baby stuff in Germany
Mack and I had to run out to Metro yesterday to buy a few things before the Christmas shopping craze truly hits. We decided to smoke ribs and have a BBQ Christmas dinner this year so I was out picking the ribs up, among other things. Shortly after I got home, the doorbell rang and I was rather surprised when I opened the door. I was expecting my neighbor because I saw he’d accepted a package for us,... read more

Not exactly the Ritz
I haven’t mentioned much about what things were like those four days while I was in the hospital; but mistake my lack of words up until this point as a sign that things weren’t. It was rather the opposite. Because I’m an expat and I am still not 100% fluent in German, I am always nervous about times when I might just find myself relying on gestures to get the point across. But I think... read more

It was a cold and icy night…
I have been debating just how much I want to share about the birth of our daughter…but I know I appreciated finding as many personal experience stories as possible before I gave birth for reassurance. And not those stories that terrify you and make you wonder what in the world you’ve just gotten yourself into from someone who had a terrible pregnancy already. So I guess I’m going to... read more

Fit as a fiddle
OK, this is going to be a brief brag about myself but I would like to give some hope out there to other pregnant moms worried about getting their figure back…it can be wonderfully simple and after the baby arrives you just might be able to watch the weight fall off and your stomach shrink within the first two weeks. After nearly three weeks, you can feel totally fit again, as if months have passed... read more

Baby got bump
We just found out last night that our best friend from college is having a baby. We are thrilled for him and his wife and hope they have as wonderful of an experience as we have had already…a prayer we have for all our friends & family recently or currently having little ones. Lately, it seems that we are hearing this news from more and more people. Over the past couple of years just about... read more

It’s all in your head
Those who’ve been reading me for a while know that I decided to use self-hypnosis during the birthing of our daughter in lieu of drugs. I chose a program called HypnoBabies which I shortly discussed a while back. With everything now behind us, I have to say it all turned out really well. I felt relaxed throughout the pregnancy, not experiencing any stress or anxiety about things. I don’t know... read more

A day late but not a dollar short
Looks like we will be heading to the hospital any time now. So you won’t be hearing much from me for a few days. But then there will be plenty to talk about when we come home with our new daughter! The doctor said he had no clue when she might show up but I guess the many people who had an inkling that today was the day seem to have been correct. Things have at least gotten started…we’ll... read more

Essentials when you head to the hospital in labor
It’s not here yet but the big day is quickly approaching, so I thought it might be a wise idea to talk a bit about packing bags for the hospital. Obviously everyone has items they’ll want with them and this list may not be perfect for you…but hopefully it will get you started if you are wondering just what you are going to be needing. Mom’s Labor and Postpartum Bag Lip balm,... read more

Still waiting for November 23rd
I went for a checkup yesterday at the doctor and I’m happy to report that all is well with Mackenzie and myself. I’m going to get a bit descriptive and perhaps even graphic so if you’re not looking to learn details about the wonders of pregnancy, you can stop reading. I’m still having light contractions (which I honestly don’t seem to notice unless they are the heartburn... read more
