More free baby stuff in Germany

Mack and I had to run out to Metro yesterday to buy a few things before the Christmas shopping craze truly hits. We decided to smoke ribs and have a BBQ Christmas dinner this year so I was out picking the ribs up, among other things. Shortly after I got home, the doorbell rang and I was rather surprised when I opened the door. I was expecting my neighbor because I saw he’d accepted a package for us,... read more

Mackenzie’s first playdate

It’s been a couple weeks since this took place, but what can I say; I’ve been busy as usual. Friends of ours have a son who is about a month younger than Mackenzie, but you can’t tell by looking at him. He’s going to start walking any day now and has been standing on his own for several weeks. He’s just adorable and actually really hard to photograph because usually he just... read more

Sometimes the best toys are free

When you have a little one at home, you are constantly trying to find something, ANYTHING, that will keep them amused for a while. But at some point, all the toys in the house just become boring, old stuff that is not all that interesting anymore. It may get her attention for a few minutes, but she’s not willing to focus on it for more than 5 minutes anymore. This makes it almost impossible to get... read more

Mackenzie’s first birthday — showered in presents

Ayla may have been confused about whose birthday it really was last Wednesday, but we knew that it was in fact Mackenzie who has been receiving packages in the mail from friends and family over the last week. And after we opened everything on Wednesday, there were more presents to open on Friday and Saturday as friends (and godparents) arrived for our Thanksgiving feast.  And as if that isn’t... read more

Dear Mackenzie: Happy first birthday!

Dear Mackenzie, First, I know I’m late…AGAIN! But we were having so much fun partying for your birthday and Thanksgiving that I just couldn’t find the time to sit down and compose my thoughts. But I think you know that my tardiness in no way reflects my level of love for you. In fact, it should prove that I love you oodles since I’ve been playing with you and giving you love instead... read more

Filling up that baby belly

Mackenzie is officially moving from 9 month to 12 month sized clothing today. In German sizes, that means we’re starting on the 80 (cm) sizes now. I pulled a TON of stuff out of her dresser last night, mostly pajamas that just don’t quite stretch far enough anymore on her body. Stefan actually had to put together a new moving box for me so I had somewhere to put all the clothes. Some of them I... read more

Dear Mackenzie: You’re 11 months old already

Dear Mackenzie, Yesterday was your 11 month birthday. I know, I’m a day late. But it happens. I was sleep deprived and my brain wasn’t functioning so well. You had something to do with that, thinking that you needed to stay up until 5am just so we made sure we changed our clocks over. Thankfully I eventually remembered the MRD (Meal Ready to Drink) powder I bought for you and made you a good... read more

A big thanks to a fellow expat blogger!

Some people ask me why I blog. There are many reasons really. Blogging is usually very therapeutic for me. I blog about a bad experience, a good experience, something crazy that happened…and I will hear from all of you who tell me you’ve been in a similar situation and you know just what I’m going through. I also blog to let my friends and family know what is going on in our ever changing... read more

More discounts for new moms in Germany

I am sad to say that shopping in Germany is not really the same as in America. For one, you don’t have tons of coupons to choose from every week to influence purchases. Occasionally coupons will come out from specific stores which can be used but those were really not the norm. And for the longest time, stores could not even discount products heavily to encourage fair pricing and equal shopping at... read more

When babies don’t sleep, everyone suffers

The last week or so has been a rough one here. Mackenzie has begun waking up in the middle of the night usually around 3:30am) and then doesn’t want to go back to sleep for a few hours. This is something quite new for us because Mack has always been a really good sleeper. She started sleeping from 9pm until 9am when she was just a couple months old and we’ve had rare occasions during growth... read more
