This morning’s blog post is therapeutic for us, it’s time to moan and groan about the standstill we have experienced for the past two weeks.
After discovering that we are just not strong enough and don’t have enough hands to put up the ceiling drywall we called in the troops. However, since then not much has been happening here since Macky had a family emergency in Bosnia (his sister was trampled by a horse) and things have apparently taken a turn for the worse since we got stood up by him yesterday and once again he is MIA.
Yesterday, he and his guys where supposed to finish the ceiling drywall and start on the plumbing. Well, since he didn’t show and we have not heard anything we have no idea when things will continue. Stefan is very unhappy about the situation. Of course he understands that family is the most important thing and certainly knows that Macky needs to be with his sister right now, but since two weeks not much has happened and we are anxious to move on.
Since we are not people that just get beaten down by little curve balls, we are looking for a few projects on the guesthouse which can be done until Macky returns. Yesterday we spent the day building cable trees for the Halogen spots for the ceiling so when Macky returns to do the ceiling, they just need to lay them in there rather than constructing those too.
Today it will be time to lay some more bricks. Originally we also wanted Macky to do the bricking as well, but it’s turning cold here in Germany and we need keep moving so we will do that too. After taking the dog for a walk we will return to Hagebau for some more bricks and mortar and perhaps already the bathroom window. The order for the door windows needs to be firmed up as well and then at least the building will be closed off.
For tomorrow we plan on bricking the divider wall which will form the new walk in closet and will get busy on that – as well as the breakthrough from the guest house etc.
This project has been plagued by delays from the get go and meanwhile we are scrapping the build out of the mud room. Depressing times and it is tough to keep going. Given that the first steps went so smoothly I guess it’s no surprise that we are running into delays – but at this point we just want to finish the darn thing. Too bad we are still in the very beginning.
Keep your chin up!We are trying to do our own kitchen remodeling project ourselves but the floor is taking forever!!! A nice thick layer of dust covers everything in the house. I know exactly how you feel!Melissa
Thanks for the words of encouragement! We’re thankfully feeling a lot better about things now that we got a bit more work done today.
Remodeling really can be terrible sometimes…we just have to keep thinking about how great it’s going to be when it’s all finished. We definitely remember how bad it was with dust everywhere when we were working on the main house last year…not nice at all! Thankfully this project is in a separate building and we can just close it up and kinda forget about it…
Hope your kitchen project gets wrapped up soon!!
