Obama Fingers – now that’s some GOOD chicken
Caught up in the wave of Obama-mania here, a German frozen food company called Sprehe has launched a product called Obama Fingers in an attempt to cash in on some of the hype. Obama Fingers are fried chicken fingers with curry dipping sauce which were released for a trial run at two discount grocery stores in Germany (Plus and Netto) on a trial run.

As soon as I heard about them, I had to think of a skit by Dave Chappelle which talks about the predisposition of blacks to fried chicken. I have laughed over and over again about this skit from one of his very funny stand-up shows, Killin’ Them Softly. Maybe the company’s management had seen it to and thought it was just a simple fact? According to an article on Spiegel Online (a German news magazine), Judith Witting, sales manager for Sprehe, said: “We noticed that American products and the American way of eating are trendy at the moment. Americans are more relaxed. Not like us stiff Germans, like (Chancellor Angela) Merkel…It was supposed to be a homage to the American lifestyle and the new US president.”
Nice try folks…may want to take that idea back to the drawing board. And while you’re at it, why not drop the Golden Gate Bridge for the background? I know Chicago may not have such noticable landmarks but how about the White House? I’m certainly not offended by the product but find it hysterical. I wonder if they taste better because they are Obama inspired. Bring on the change people!

Lets hope that it will not cause sour stomaches and a pulling from the market in the days and years ahead because the hype has flown when the honeymoon is over.
I’m pretty sure they’re going to pull them already. Fear of American expat uprisings and such.
Not exactly the best name they could have selected…but interesting that they went with chicken versus anything else
