Apparently the Russian Kulich makers would put the initials 'XV' on the bread, meaning 'Christ has risen'. So, maybe there is historic precedent for using the letter X as a substitute for the word Christ and the abbreviation of Xmas is not meant as a pagan spelling. Just a thought.
