We have a dead corner in our bathroom that we’ve been wondering what to do with since we moved in. It’s behind the big corner garden tub in our master bath which never really gets used. There’s no natural light in our bathroom so real plants are out of the question (not to mention that plants and I have a love / hate relationship lately). And it’s only about a foot deep which makes it hard to find anything useful.

So about two months ago, we were wandering around in Marshall’s and came across a statue which I adore. Since it was my birthday, this guy found its way into our home.

I shared a photo of it on the NOH Facebook page because I really love his happy little face…but there was one small issue with him. A little chip on the edge of his robe (see that big white chunk halfway down).

(BTW, if you ever find something damaged in a discount store, make sure to ask for an extra discount. Saved 10% off this statue just for asking!)

Chipped paint and plaster did not worry me too much, though. The discount partially paid for the can of paint and I wasn’t crazy about his color to begin with.

So after a quick visit to the home improvement store, my wonderful husband “suited up” and armed himself with newspaper and plastic gloves.

While he was at it, Stefan grabbed the ugly white metal towel rack and painted that too. It looks so much better!

I have to admit, it’s been a long time since we’ve spray painted anything. But the Rustoleum with primer metallic paint we used was awesome. Even in the folds of the robe and the smooth head, there were no drops or runs. The few times that Stefan thought it would pool, the paint just seemed to smooth itself out. Not sure if that’s what Rustoleum spent decades perfecting or it just seemed that way to us, but we’re definitely thinking about spray painting far more things now!

So what do you think?

The color came out just right and matches the lamps we have in our bedroom very well. The Buddha looks great in the bathroom too and is the perfect focal point for the room. The rest of the space around him needs more sprucing up so I’m not going to give you a final bathroom pic just yet. statue-rustoleum-makeover-7
