When you look at the weather forecast, it’s no secret that winter is in full swing. Down here in Florida, I have already started to forget about the woes of winter. But I definitely still clearly remember what it’s like to bundle up tightly in 5 layers of clothing, which take 15 minutes to put on, before you can go downstairs to take out the dog. Or waiting for the sunrise at 9:30am and hoping to catch a glimpse of the actual sun between clouds and buildings, before it sets again at 4pm.

I found that the ultimate way to escape the winter blues is simply to take a vacation or move to Naples, Florida. But that’s not an option for everyone (although it darn well should be.) So instead, I’m going to help you infuse your home with happiness and summery thoughts.

Stop winter blues room spray

Ingredients

  • 4 oz. clean spray bottle with a fine mist setting (try to avoid anything that used to hold cleaning products or hair spray)
  • 18 drops Orange
  • 12 drops Grapefruit
  • 1.5 ounces of distilled water
  • 1.5 ounces of high-proof alcohol (cheap vodka works great but isopropyl or rubbing alcohol are not). (The alcohol helps the aroma linger longer, but you could also just use 3oz of distilled water if you prefer.)

Instructions

  1. Fill the spray bottle with distilled water and alcohol. (You want to use a bigger bottle so you have room to shake the ingredients well before each use.)
  2. Add essential oils.
  3. Shake to combine well.
  4. Spray mist a few times into the room. Repeat as needed.
  5. Some people or animals may have adverse reactions to essential oils so always use with care. Do not allow the mist fall onto furniture or into open beverages.

If you like, you can also add grapefruit or orange essential oils to your morning shower. Just add a drop or two to your shower head when you get in and you’ll have the smell lingering throughout the whole shower.

Orange and grapefruit oils have a nice, fruity, citrus smell which promote happiness and peace. Orange is also known to be naturally uplifting and can help with depressive thoughts. It is also anti-inflammatory, providing relief from both internal and external inflammation caused by infections.

So now I’ve shared one of my secrets to get through the winter — what is yours?
