If you’re planning your summer jollies for this year, you’ll find a whole host of exciting places to visit all within a few hours’ flight time. From Spain and Portugal to holidays to Turkey 2013, today’s holidaymakers really are a spoilt bunch.

One destination that’s high up on the holiday wishlists of many beach-lovers, clubbers, explorers and nature enthusiasts is the Canary Islands. And in particular, the volcanic island of Lanzarote is an absolute gem that routinely draws visitors back to its sun-baked shores year after year

Lanzarote was born out of fiery volcanic eruptions that shaped its landscape in many bizarre and fascinating ways. Some of its spectacular terrain has been sympathetically crafted into visitor attractions, such as the sprawling Timanfaya National Park. Much of this important and protected nature reserve is off-limits to wandering tourists, but you can take a bus tour or join an organised excursion to enjoy this natural wonder. And don’t miss the geothermal barbeque at El Diablo restaurant, which cooks food over volcanic heat and offers beautiful views to boot.

Elewhere, Lanzarote is home to many creations born out of the genius of Cesar Manrique. This local architect and visionary created many attractions using the local landscape, such as The Cesar Manrique Foundation – a house and visitor centre built around volcanic vacuums in ancient lava flow, with volcanic bubble rooms and gardens. Another Manrique creation is the Jameos del Agua, a series of natural lava-formed caves that provide an underground concert hall and habitat for a rare species of crab.

If a holiday in Lanzarote tickles your fancy, you’ll find an abundance of Lanzarote holiday deals offering great deals and discounts during both the summer and winter months. Whether you grab a last-minute bargain or secure an early bird deal on next year’s holiday, it all helps to make your visit to this volcanic wonderland that little bit more special.
