Looks a bit American…
So my MIL & FIL were standing outside our house the other day and an older lady was walking by. She stopped to chat and mentioned that the decorations on the house looked really nice, “although they are a bit American. Not that that is a bad thing.”
We got a good laugh from that comment and I guess I have to agree; but I don’t take any offense. American’s still usually make an effort to decorate their houses while many Germans seem to think that putting an electric candle in a few windows of your house is “going all out.” Our town looked particularly sad this year since there are no lights on city hall and most of our neighbors didn’t do much of anything to spread the holiday cheer.
Go have a look at our place yourself…but I can say with certainty that next year, she’s going to be thinking that Americans threw up Christmas all over our place. It won’t be tacky, but there WILL be more.

Oh, perhaps I need to move to Germany then since I want to protest all decorations. Now that my oldest boy has started school, he is demanding them. Urghh…..
