We have been hot and heavy into doing some small renovations and clearing stuff out of the farm these days. We want everything to be as nice and shiny as possible before we move out — and are still hoping that we will get a good offer on the house in the next 3 weeks. But until then, it’s full speed ahead with making things look a bit nicer, spreading on a bit of paint and just pushing forward with all the decluttering.

A couple weeks ago, after we’d begun cleaning things out and gathering together the stuff left over in the farm that was still useful, we realized that we had 3 nice sized cans of green paint — exactly what we needed to start painting all the doors around the farm. And we also had plenty of paint rollers already as well — just needed a few trays.

So we began the daunting task of painting the numerous green doors populating our farm. In fact, there are 14 doors that face our courtyard, not include our wide front gate or the enormous barn door.

The funny thing is that this paint goes on almost blue.

I mean really blue.

Like when you start painting it on and haven’t used it in a while, you totally freak out that it’s never going to dry to the color you want it to be.

But thankfully, it actually does dry darker and we have to say it looks pretty fantastic. Now all the doors match the shutters we repainted and the ones Stefan and his dad built in the freezing cold a little over a year ago.

We’re kinda wondering why in the world we put this project off as long as we did. I guess we just lacked the motivation. And fully dreaded the entire painting process. Painting is not our favorite task although we are always really thrilled with the results. It’s truly amazing what a difference a bit of paint can make to a wall, a door, a room, a piece of furniture…anything!

Since all of the windows in the house are white, we decided it would look nice if all the trim around the windows in any doors was white as well. Although it was a huge change that left us unsettled for a while, we really like the clean feeling it adds to those doors.

And we also finally got around to building the shutters for the guest house so that the old windows which have been padded with insulation are covered up. This was the only photo I could find of our guest house before we did all the building and painting:

We think it looks really fabulous now — and so much more “together” than it looked before.

Have you put off any projects lately that seemed horrible before you started them — and then you realized they were just not all that much hassle when you started so you wanted to kick yourself for not just doing it earlier? We’ve been experiencing that a bit more often than we’d like lately! 🙂
