Today is our eleventh wedding anniversary — and when Sarah Waters, a travel agent from Sydney who has booked many Bali honeymoons, contacted me about writing a post about heading to Bali for honeymooning — all I really wanted to know was when the next flight was leaving for Stefan and I. From the beach to the cultural centre of Ubud, she recommends you experience a little of everything to get the most out of your trip. And since Stefan and I never really had an official honeymoon, I’ve always loved dreaming about what great destinations we should go to even now since we’re older and can afford it! 😉

Bali is a gorgeous place to visit for any occasion, especially a honeymoon. The lush landscapes and friendly people create a peaceful atmosphere for you and your new spouse. If you’re considering honeymooning in Bali, but aren’t sure if it’s the destination for you, use this seven-day itinerary to get a feel for what to expect during your visit. It doesn’t matter if you’re after an adventure-packed vacation or a serene romantic getaway; there is something in Bali for everyone. This itinerary will move you through several different areas of Bali.

Day One: Arrive at the Airport in Denpasar

Australia is six hours away, so keep that in mind when booking your flight to Bali. It is also best to tour the island with a guide. If you choose to enlist the services of a guide, he or she will take you to your hotel on the day of your arrival and to each destination that you’ll visit during your trip. Most of the natives in Bali drive mopeds. If you prefer to travel by car, it is best to have someone escort you from place to place.

Day Two: Travel to Pemuteran

After a relaxing evening, you’ll enjoy a nice hotel breakfast prepared on site by your own private chef. Then you’ll travel about four hours northwest to the gorgeous beaches of Bali in Pemuteran. Along the way, you’ll make a few stops to explore the landscape and purchase a sarong for your trip to the temple on day five. For the next four days, you will stay in an oceanfront villa, complete with a spa and a restaurant with a swim-up bar.

Day Three: Relax With a Couples’ Massage

Wake up in your villa to the sound of waves crashing on the shore. Take a quick dip in your private plunge pool, and then make your way to the restaurant nearby and enjoy a Balinese breakfast: fresh fruit juice and mi goreng noodles with a fried egg. Spend a few hours together by the beach and enjoy a romantic couples’ massage in the afternoon at the nearby spa.

Day Four: Snorkle and Dive at Menjangan Island

Considered the best snorkel and scuba diving experience that Bali has to offer, Menjangan Island is home to some of the most colourful corals. The water is crystal clear, and the marine life will captivate you for hours. Watch out for barracudas!

Day Five: A Temple Excursion

Today you’ll travel to a nearby temple in the countryside and participate in a blessing ceremony with the priestess. This is truly an unforgettable experience and one you will treasure for many years to come. Make sure you dress the part! Remember that sarong you bought on the way up to Pemuteran? Your guide will show you how to wear it so that you can enter the temple and take part in the blessing ceremony. When you return, it’s time to pack up your belongings. In the morning, you’ll eat an early breakfast and make your way to Ubud.

Day Six: Travel to Ubud — Bali’s Center for Arts and Culture

Ubud is a late-night town, so get ready to have some fun. When you arrive, you’ll check into your hotel near the Monkey Forest, a nature reserve and temple complex. It is located near all of Ubud’s shops and restaurants. Your guide will give you tickets to a performance at the Palace. After you eat dinner, you’ll enjoy ancient music and dance under the stars.

Day Seven: Rafting and Shopping

What makes Bali such an incredible honeymoon destination? The fact that you can enjoy whitewater rafting and shopping all in one day. On this morning, you’ll be picked up by your guide and taken to the Agung River where you’ll enjoy a few hours of rafting in the scenic jungle. That afternoon you’ll return to Ubud to enjoy shopping and more of the town’s nightlife.

After seven days of romance and adventure, it’s time to return home. Your guide will pick you up and take you to the airport. Be sure to bring your camera so you can carry the memories with you for a lifetime.
