Santa Claus came early this year…and he brought me a wildly fantastic new SLR camera!

My dear husband mentioned to me before my birthday that he’d been thinking about getting me a new camera for blogging, work and fun use. But unfortunately the prices were just insane. Then we saw a sale on the Canon EOS 1000D/Rebel XS this weekend. Coupled with a gift certificate we’ve had since June, we managed to get the camera for a very nice price. And although the economy is crazy and we’re trying to prevent unplanned purchases like these…we will also save money for new product photos which we have to do soon for Newf Brand, as well as be able to do our own belly and baby photos (especially after a few photo classes and lots of trial and error!)

Because he was a photography junkie long before I was allowed to touch an expensive camera, Stefan had an old-school film EOS which he bought about 10 years ago. Thankfully, Canon has made it so that all the old EF and EF-S lenses also fit the new camera…as well as flashes. So I scored a big zoom lens, flash, filters and more. Naturally, I will also be allowing him to use the camera too. And I also get to use his fabulous little Sony digital video camera. I think it’s a very fair deal all around. The question will be who gets to photograph where and who will be handling Mackenzie and/or the dog. Of course if one of us is “wearing” her, we’ll still have our hands free anyway without doggo…so I’m sure we’ll figure things out.
