Today happens to be our anniversary. And while Stefan has talked about becoming a pilot in the past, I don’t think he’s managed to sneak away for the extended hours a license takes just yet. But if he did, there certainly are few things more romantic than a private flight to somewhere exciting or exotic! So when this post came across my desk, I just knew it had to be shared today!

Have you been thinking about learning to fly? If so, here’s one more reason to get started: Men — if you have your pilot’s license, you have more than the ability to fly a plane; you have a license to impress the ladies. There is nothing more romantic than a well-planned get-away. You will be racking up those brownie points in no time.

Well-Planned is the Key

Besides filing your flight plan, be sure you plan something fun to do once you get to your destination. Make sure whatever you plan is something she will enjoy. Hint: if she’s a city girl at heart, a camping trip is probably NOT a good idea, and vice versa. Here are two great ideas for you to look into.

  • A Beach Party for Two
What could be more romantic than dinner on the beach, especially if you don’t live anywhere near the beach. There are plenty of private beaches or beaches associated with hotels that you can take flight to. Florida has several resorts and hotels that offer intimate beach dining sessions. California is another good option. These often involve private chefs and music. Be sure to contact the resorts and make reservations in advance as availability may be limited.
  • A Wilderness Adventure
If something outdoors and wild is more your style (and hers), consider taking her on a wilderness adventure tour. Guided whitewater rafting trips in Colorado are a fun and physical challenge. ATV tours through Utah can be a blast and give you some awesome scenery and sunsets. Even hiking in the Catskills of New York is an amazing adventure.

If neither of these seems ideal for you, here are a few more ideas she is going to love:

  • Theater tickets
  • Picnic in an exotic locale
  • Concert tickets for her favorite band
  • Hotel reservations
  • Casino tour with some chips to play with
  • A couple’s spa weekend
  • Wine tasting
  • Take her back to her hometown

The possibilities are endless. Plan something that gets you out of town and away from the typical daily grind. If you want to make it a surprise, you have two choices. Either tell her what to pack, or, if you are more resourceful, enlist the help of one of her friends.

Look Good Doing It

She is not going to care what kind of plane you are flying. As long as it’s air-worthy it could be a 20-year old Piper Cub or a brand new Yuneec. What’s going to matter to her is that you are the one flying it.

Of course, you need to look cool while you’re doing it. Your plane, no matter how old it is should be neat and clean, and look well cared for. If it looks like it’s seen better days it can really spoil the mood, so get it cleaned up and maybe add a few impressive bells and whistles. A new navigation system is always a reassuring addition (plus you know you’ve always wanted one).

Your look should be all you but with an aviation twist. Check an online store for items than can make or break your look. Add a new headset from a pilot shop to make yourself look professional and debonair.

No matter what you decide to do, if you really want to score those points and impress her, just remember the two key points: planning and looking good. If you do the prep work ahead of time, you are sure to win her heart.
