Have you ever been walking across the living room floor and felt that sharp, shooting pain that only a Lego block can give as it grinds into your foot? All of us parents have been there at least once in our lives…and each and every time you probably vowed to toss the whole lot of those tiny little blocks into the trash. That is until you thought about just how many tears and sadness that would certainly invoke. 😉

I used to think that there were few options out there when it came to organizing Legos and making it easier to sort through the huge bins of blocks to create a masterpiece. Until a creative couple from Australia contacted me and told me all about their very smart and useful invention: the Box4Blox

The Box4Blox is very practical and the organizing junkie in me just loves it. The fact that you can store all the Legos right inside the sorting trays is fantastic since I don’t want to have a bunch of extra places to look for blocks when I’ve been “contracted” to build a new princess house or horse buggy.

When we first opened the Box4Blox packaging and dumped all our Legos in, the sorting process started without any help from us and we could all tell it was going to be an instant hit. I’m not really a fan of pawing through an enormous bucket of Legos in search of one tiny end-piece that will allow me to complete the task. So having a contraption like this which makes it all easier and shortens the building process is well worth the investment to me. box4blox_trays

Box4Blox Pros

  • Small and compact — We don’t have tons and tons of Legos, so the Box4Blox is a nice size for us. It fits perfectly into one of the IKEA EXPEDIT shelf cubbies in Mack’s room as well, which I love.
  • Easy to use — Both young and old can use the Box4Blox to sort the blocks by size, and to be honest, it’s quite fun. When I build things with Mack, I actually love tossing the stuff into the box and knowing that it’s going to filter down to the right level. And Mack loves to shake and jiggle the box so all the pieces fall where they need to.
  • Durable — After several months of use, we haven’t had any trouble with plastic cracking or trays breaking. Granted, no one in our house has tried to sit on it or anything like that. But I think that if is use it for its designed purpose, it should last for many years.

Box4 Blox Cons

  • Doesn’t completely close up together — The Box4Blox would be a bit cooler if it was more portable. The trays are only nested together so you’ve got to pick the bottom tray to carry it. For us, that works just fine — but I think we might be seeing the Legos out more often if this was quicker to grab off the shelf. The top is also a bit wonky and doesn’t always want to fit on tightly.
  • Limited size — For us, this is not really much of an issue because we only have 200 or 300 Legos (does anyone actually keep track of how many there are?) But if we had 1,000’s and 1,000’s of Legos, I fear that the Box4Blox would be mostly useful for sorting only and you’d need to store your blocks elsewhere.

Overall Thoughts on Box4Blox

I think the Box4Blox is really fantastic and we’re really happy with it. It fits well on our shelves and is bright and colorful, which makes kids attracted to it and therefore the Legos get used more often. And so far Mack doesn’t have any trouble getting it off the shelf or taking apart the trays either. She completely understands the concept and where to find everything in the box.

This would be a great practical birthday or Christmas present for your kids, grandkids, god children and so forth. At 40USD, it’s a bit pricey for a general gift but it’s something that can be kept and used for many, many years which I like.

If you’re looking for a great way to organize Legos and a way to make building with them more fun, I highly recommend checking out the Box4Blox.
