Soooo, I mentioned that some progress had been made in the mud room recently…and that is definitely the case. When Stefan’s parents were here, the guys hung up our cabinets from our first apartment here in Germany that we have lugged around from place to place for the past couple years. They look quite good here I have to admit and now I just need to go buy some new shelves so I can start filling them up with all sorts of junk!

On the other hand, the rest of the mudroom still looks very similar to this:

YIKES! I painted the ceiling in the soon to be pantry and cleaned the walls a bit. Actually put the first shelf in there today but it’s SO hot right now that I don’t feel like doing much if it’s not from the comfort of my couch where the portable air conditioner is running nearby. And it gives me a chance to catch up on blogs as well as do other work instead of random house stuff.

So this was the pantry before I cleaned and painted. It’s still looking rather clinical in there after the paint but honestly I’m going to have shelves all over most of these walls and therefore don’t feel that it would be worth the effort to paint the tiles or anything like that.

But I can say that it is 100% cleaner in there and no longer smells like a vat of varnish which is a massive improvement and in fact what I needed. The last thing I want is to start storing things in there like pasta or flour which will then take on that smell and taste. Ick! Anywho, with any luck I will get the new shelves in there next week sometime…and our electrician is coming out on June 9th so I hope to have a lamp I can put in there also which will brighten up the room a bit.
