A day of work in the orchard
Don’t let my lack of posting let you think we haven’t been busy or that I don’t have TONS of things to blog about. I’ve just been in a bit of a blogging funk I guess and also have been having a hard time finding time to sit down and git ‘r done. But I’m trying to get back on track and finish a few of the dozen or so drafts I’ve started… We went down to the... read more

How you doin’, garden?
You might recall in my last garden update (20 days ago exactly) that we had finished tilling our raised beds, had the majority of the weeds out of them and were basically just waiting for the last frost to pass by or to get our tunnels built before we put anything in the ground. Unfortunately, our plan for tunnel domination was foiled (and not in a good greenhouse foil way.) Apparently, they don’t... read more

Now our storage buildings look sad and exposed
The weather forecast was really sketchy this weekend so we didn’t get everything we wanted done…but we did make some progress. We did a little running around Saturday morning, trying to get a few things to finish up projects. That became harder than expected when we couldn’t find any 1 inch PVC piping at Hagebau. We’re going to have to check a few more home improvement stores and... read more

The compost pile is gone!
A bit late on the update but at least I’m getting to it sometime in the same month! On June 2nd, the wonderful workers showed up again to deal with our compost pile dilemma. On a farm, things like this are very common here – but apparently none of the people doing the actual work at this company had seen anything like this before so they were yet again bumfuzzled. As you might recall, we had... read more

We just THOUGHT we could get rid of this stuff…
Today was supposed to be a very exciting day for us. When Stefan called to have the trash container picked up on Monday, he happened to ask them if they knew of a place that would take away the compost pile (“misthauf”) in our courtyard. It’s all sitting in a hole off to the side and fenced off – not really causing us any real concern…but at some stage we knew we wanted that... read more

Mud room + pantry update
Soooo, I mentioned that some progress had been made in the mud room recently…and that is definitely the case. When Stefan’s parents were here, the guys hung up our cabinets from our first apartment here in Germany that we have lugged around from place to place for the past couple years. They look quite good here I have to admit and now I just need to go buy some new shelves so I can start... read more

A progress report from 3 long days of work!
Well, it’s taken a few days to recover but the marathon of work while Stefan’s parents were here has come to a close for now. We still have a few other small project that we are working on (like the mudroom which I’ll post about in a bit) but we accomplished some very big tasks over the 3 days they were here working with us. I know you’re curious about everything so here... read more

Spring Cleaning Closets
We’ve been attempting to do some spring cleaning around here and get rid of some stuff that we haven’t looked at in over a year. Amazingly enough, there are a lot of things like that around here. A couple weekends ago we cleaned out our closets because things were just overflowing in our extra room upstairs which doubles as a closet at the moment. There are long built-in closets along one end... read more

More clean up is complete
We had guests here this weekend which I’ve mentioned a few times. We decided on Thursday that it would be much nicer if the yucky yellow container was gone from the courtyard so we requested that it be picked up on Friday afternoon. But it was nowhere near full on Thursday morning so we had to get to work. I mentioned the areas we’d be targeting in a post on the 29th…and we got two of... read more

What goes in this container?
Once again an empty container is sitting in our courtyard. It’s actually very hard for me to not go out there and start filling it up the second it arrives…but that’s not fair to Stefan who is still at work…and it’s looking like it will start pouring rain at any second so perhaps it’s better to stay inside where it’s dry. We’re supposed to get some light rain... read more
