New photos from the guest house still in progress

We’re waiting for our contractors to arrive this morning and Stefan is off on his first run of the week to Hagebau to pick up some corner profiles, a few more sheets of drywall and a sack of filler for the screw holes & seams in the drywall. Our electrician is also on his way over to run more cabling through the barn and get the fuse box all wired up in the guest house. The two contractors are... read more

Plenty of work going on here today

The electrician came out yesterday and before he arrived in the morning, Stefan wasn’t really sure we had anything for him to do. But once the guy got here and we started talking to him, it became clear that we had more than enough work for him for the next several days. Not only do we need him to install a fuse box in the guest house closet but we also wanted someone to finally set up our satellite... read more

What went on last Saturday

After we got as far along as we could on Friday, Covey came out on Saturday to make some further progress on the drywall. There was plenty to be done so he arrived at 8:30am and brought his son along to help out a bit. His son is 12 and apparently wants to follow in his father’s footsteps…but his dad keeps telling him that living the life of a contractor is not the way to go. At any rate, his... read more

Lots of news….

A lot has happened on the farm in the last few days and we haven’t been awake enough in the last few evenings to keep up with Blogging. Things are really moving forward though. Stefan was quite successful in getting the plumbing started. Actually, we got everything done except connecting the various parts of the piping around the room together. Mostly, we left the four different sections apart for... read more

What a day!

We’ve had quite a day here on the farm. Actually it all kinda started yesterday when our phone went out. We couldn’t receive calls, make calls out, had no internet…and we basically started going stir-crazy. Of course we didn’t have a cell phone either because Stefan usually has one via his company and we barely use one ourselves. So we had to walk down the block to a pay phone which... read more

Our guest house now has ceilings & walls!

We made an enormous amount of progress today – more than we ever could have imagined! Macky sent a contractor to us this morning which wrote about earlier…we were a bit concerned because Macky told us during one of our last conversations that it’s not possible for two people to hang drywall, especially on the ceiling. So then he calls this morning and says he’s sending one guy out... read more

A change of pace – ie. Macky is back

This morning we had made plans to sleep in a bit to recover from all the back breaking labor yesterday. However, at 8AM sharp the phone rang and it was Macky. He apologized profusely for not calling and not being there as promised and gave a few more details regarding his sister. Apparently the family got together and pooled resources to have her Medivac’ed out of Bosnia to Germany where she is now... read more

I thought demolition was over

On our quest for tasks to tackle before Macky returns, we continued with demolition today. Our revised plans now include a built-in closet – however, this one is a bit different. The built-in closet will be created by taking in a “dead space” between the guest house and the barn, which thankfully is under the same roof as the guest house. The first order of business was to remove the... read more

Complete Standstill

This morning’s blog post is therapeutic for us, it’s time to moan and groan about the standstill we have experienced for the past two weeks. After discovering that we are just not strong enough and don’t have enough hands to put up the ceiling drywall we called in the troops. However, since then not much has been happening here since Macky had a family emergency in Bosnia (his sister was... read more

That’s it, we’re calling in the troops

After spending nearly 2 hours mounting a small piece of dry wall to the ceiling and then nearly knocking ourselves out when we attempted to mount a full sized piece of drywall we are calling in the troops. We have realized, that just the two of us can not mount the drywall by ourselves up on our high ceilings. We have put a call in to Macky to see if he can hang the drywall for us, and hopefully he will... read more
