From horses to house guests
For the past week or so we have been thinking hard and putting some of our ideas for the horse stall transformation down on paper. Unfortunately we haven’t had much luck drawing everything out in Google SketchUp. As much potential as that program has, it really isn’t all that easy for a novice to use. So we may have to break down one of these days and buy a home design software. But for the... read more

Our second attic
We don’t talk about it much because we’re rarely up there (especially after almost locking ourselves up there permanently – which I have only just realized I have never blogged about but went back to relive for you) but we have a rather large attic space which runs above our new kitchen and mud room. It is about 6 meters wide and perhaps 20 meters long…and it’s pretty much... read more

Fabulous Farmhouse Searches Vol. 3
It’s Thursday again and I have once again dutifully compiled a collection of searches that led to this blog in the last week. We had a few fun ones this time around like the German tractors. I actually had to do a bit of research on that one German makes of tractorsIn case you missed our tractor meet post, you can view it here. We have a video here with about 100 various tractors which were on... read more

How expensive is it going to be?
Here’s a fun little tool we came across on RemodelingMySpace.com – a cost estimator for common projects around the house. Unfortunately for us it will only give us a vague idea since we’re not in the US, but we played with it a bit anyway. It turned up a price of $315 to paint our 5 interior doors and 13 interior windows with a base and 1 coat of paint…that seems a bit low since... read more

I must be crazy
So we mostly filled up our biodegradable trash container already vines from the backyard, but I’m thinking we could fill it up even more with the remaining waste from the bird areas. There are two cage areas left, one of which will be completely removed and the other which we’re thinking we’re going to clean up and eventually may use again to raise a few chickens. Notice I say “a... read more

The best stencil site ever
I was browsing the web yesterday, trying to find some inspiration about what we should put on our shutters when we repaint them. Now that we now we can get the color matched that is currently on there at Hornbach, we just have to decide what we want them to look like in the future. We’re not happy with the flower design on there now, it just look cheap and improvised. We’re leaning towards... read more

Booked solid until mid-May
Hubby and I are starting to feel old. We know we’re not, but we’re approaching thirty and our 10 year class reunions from high school are coming up…and it makes you just want to stop counting birthdays. I have recently said I’m just going to age until 25 or 30, then go back down to 21, back up to 30 and so on. Then there’s no climbing into the 30s range and all those things... read more

Follow up to Protect Your Possessions
So I decided to look into this whole inventory process and thought maybe I would find something online such as an Excel template. What I found I would have to say is quite a bit cooler, though, and quite useful. It would almost make the inventory process fun…. KnowYourStuff.org is provided by the Insurance Information Institute (III) which serves the purpose of informing the public about insurance... read more

The perfect chair?
When it’s warm outside we love sitting in front of the stables talking and enjoying a nice glass of home brewed iced tea. Last summer we made do with some of the many chairs we have found throughout the house, attic and barn – there must be at least 30 of them – but now that we live here full time we want something comfortable and permanent. When we first started living together in Miami... read more

Building a greenhouse & the garden
We are very optimistic people but we’ve come to the realization lately that our dreams and plans about what we want to get accomplished on the house this year may be rather hard to achieve. So one of the projects we’ve decided to put on the back burner is building up and planting our garden. So we have been thinking again what we want to do in the garden behind the barn. After some... read more
