Newfies can tweet?!?!?

Hey all you dogs out there in blogland! I’m here today to talk about a new and fun little gizmo my mom came across which is called Twitter. It’s not all that new anymore but it there aren’t a whole lot of people out there using it just yet (and I’ve barely found any Newfies at all!!) but it is pretty cool. Twitter is like a miniature blog that you can use to talk to people. You can... read more

An early birthday present

Ayla’s second birthday is coming up on February 23rd and when I was in the pet store the other day, I saw one of these dog learning games. I’ve seen them quite a few times before and always thought to myself it could be something interesting for Ayla since she’s so smart anyway (too smart really!) I intended to give her the game for her birthday but I just couldn’t wait. I brought... read more

Plenty of work going on here today

The electrician came out yesterday and before he arrived in the morning, Stefan wasn’t really sure we had anything for him to do. But once the guy got here and we started talking to him, it became clear that we had more than enough work for him for the next several days. Not only do we need him to install a fuse box in the guest house closet but we also wanted someone to finally set up our satellite... read more

What Ayla’s been up to

A post about Ayla is LONG overdue. I can’t believe our last post was almost two months ago and that wasn’t even a personal one…but hopefully we’ll do at least a little bit better in the next couple of months. There’s a few reasons we haven’t been posting much. One is that we’ve been doing a lot of work to build out our farm. One building which was originally... read more

How long is this going to take?

With all these projects currently going on around the farm it’s easy to get lost in the process. We decided to prove how big of a geek we are and installed Microsoft Project to keep track of everything. This might be a bit of an overkill, but you can’t beat the features this software has when trying to keep track of little tasks and errands. Having never done a project like this before, one... read more

Let there be cold

As many of you know, we live on an old farm here in Germany, built in 1834. Air conditioning is not really big in Germany and only available in newer homes. Having gone from Newf friendly weather in the high 50′s last week to the high 80′s today. Tomorrow it’s supposed to get even hotter – mid 90′s. Not a good progression for our Newfie. While at the hardware store today we... read more

Ayla’s Awesome Assays Vol. 7

It’s a short list of searches today because, well, I got so wrapped up in writing about getting rid of a Newf that I just didn’t feel like writing anything else after that. But for those who wander across this post with the intention of getting rid of your dog, please do the right thing and what is best for your dog. Don’t discard the dog as if they never gave you love, devotion and a... read more

We love our new freezer trunk

We bought a new freezer trunk earlier this week and are currently completely in love with it. We went shopping yesterday to start filling it up and of course because we have houseguests coming this weekend. They won’t all be staying here which takes some pressure off us but we will have a full day of cleaning ahead of us…after we get our car registration done, go to the pet store and make a... read more

Fabulous Farmhouse Searches Vol. 5

nespresso We just got a Nespresso Le Cube and we love it. We have avoided drinking a cup or five of espresso every night but absolutely love the convenience, easy clean up and easy of having a machine like this which uses little coffee tabs. And I think that when guests come over or you just want a quick pick me up, there are few things better than good espresso. Personally I am looking forward to using... read more

More tools for our workshop

While visiting Stefan’s parents in Bavaria this weekend, we drove by their local home improvement store and saw that they had an electric angle grinder on sale for €12.95. We are going to be needing one of these when we take on laying the tile wherever we end up laying it because the tiles are over a centimeter thick and cannot be cut with a regular tile cutter. And I’m pretty certain we... read more
