Tomatoes galore
So far, everything is still thriving in the greenhouse and our tomatoes are now showing some massive signs of life. Here’s a general view when you glance in the direction of the tomatoes…. As you can probably notice (click on the image to make it larger), we have lots of little tomatoes all over our plants finally. I think the drastic pruning really helped even though we probably did wait a... read more

Let there be a lettuce fest!!
After the first 12 lettuce plants we had were promptly eaten by slugs as soon as they hit the ground, we have decided that we are not yet ready to give up. I mentioned before that we found some lettuce plants at Sunflower garden center two weekends ago and we have decided that instead of putting them in the ground outside, we will start growing them in the window boxes along our courtyard. The boxes are... read more

A garden update
As promised in my previous post, I just went out into the garden to take a few pictures to share of the plants. Normally I would wait a while but since the photos in the last post are 9 days old anyway, there has been a lot more growth lately in the greenhouse. The new trash container just arrived as well and I wanted to do a post on the houseblog about what we will be doing with it so it was the perfect... read more

No searches this week
Normally I would have posted my weekly searches blog yesterday but there really weren’t any new searches leading to this blog this week. Well, there were plenty about Rob Rainford and more of the same from the previous weeks search posts, but nothing that made me want to blog about the topics. So instead I am finally posting some photos of the garden which I recall I said I would do earlier this week... read more

A watering system weekend…and more
This weekend we will be finishing the setup of the watering system in the greenhouse and into the raised beds. We will be going out of town on Thursday and not return until Sunday so we absolutely have to have the drip system set up by then or the plants are definitely going to die. They cannot go more than 24 hours without drying up and there will be nothing left of them after 3 days of heat. So tomorrow... read more

Greenhouse update
I think I promised another update quite a while ago and although you did see a lot of the plants in the recent video, I think photos are able to show the progress much better. We moved the plants into the greenhouse May 17th or 18th. The only reason I can be sure that it was one of these days is because we had the reunion party here on the 19th and the plants were sitting on our kitchen table until we had... read more

Rape, pillage & murder
This morning I went out to the garden to set some new beer traps and jars of cornmeal for the slugs. They have been devouring our peanut plants, strawberries and corn plants for the past couple of weeks and it’s time to bring this to an end. Otherwise the only thing that will survive are the strawberry plants with no fruit at all…and big, fat, happy slugs of course. While I was out there I was... read more

Our ideal garden – Vegetables
There are many, many things we want to grow and have thought about growing in our garden…so we figured we’d start of list of everything we have and want to have, making notes about where it can be grown, if we’ll need to have space for it in the greenhouse and other growing tips we’ve come across. We’ve also added a lot of links to Farm & Garden, a fabulous website with... read more

Our ideal garden – Chilies
It’s official. We’ve started the first cayenne plants. We planted 5 sets of seeds today so we’ll be monitoring them closely. We have a few other favorites to start growing in mind as well. Jalepenos – we actually consume quite a few jalepenos. We eat them on sandwiches, in szechuan, eggs and many other things. Jarred jalepenos are rather expensive here and for some reason, they... read more

The first seeds get planted
Since the garden is progressing quite nicely and we believe we will have everything ready for planting outside in the beds as well as in the greenhouse relatively soon, we decided to start a few seeds today to get our first batch of homegrown veggies. We’ve had to put them on the window ledge in the kitchen where they get light and warmth during the day. On a trip to the home improvement store today,... read more
