I almost can’t bear to look…
All right…the time has finally come. I am posting pictures of the garden regardless of how painful or embarrassing it might be. Who knows…maybe it will motivate me to get something going back there. The garden does not look good. It’s massively overgrown now and looks like we’ve left it for the crazies to take over. So pathetic – our neighbors behind us must hate us by... read more

Fajita seasoning from scratch
I don’t use this seasoning with much but it’s essential for our chicken quesadillas. It couldn’t be much more simple and why buy the packaged stuff when you can make your own? Of course, we don’t even have the option to buy it which is exactly why I tracked down this recipe in the first place. I’m afraid I don’t know where it came from anymore but if someone does know,... read more

No searches this week
Normally I would have posted my weekly searches blog yesterday but there really weren’t any new searches leading to this blog this week. Well, there were plenty about Rob Rainford and more of the same from the previous weeks search posts, but nothing that made me want to blog about the topics. So instead I am finally posting some photos of the garden which I recall I said I would do earlier this week... read more

Self-Reliant Searches Vol. 5
This weeks list of searches will be a very short one. It seems that everyone is looking to build their own woodworking workshop and tons of the searches leading to us have to do with this subject. In addition we see a lot of people looking to build tomato stands and other things that we have talked about quite a few times already…so I will spare you the repetition. And hopefully we will find a few... read more

Self-Reliant Searches Vol. 4
I intended to post this before we went on vacation to Bavaria but I got to search #3 jala corn and realized that there isn’t much information about this corn online. So I decided I better see if I could dig a bit more good information up on our own before posting this. Growing habaneros We haven’t started our habaneros yet but this gives me a reason to look up proper growing information. I was... read more

Rape, pillage & murder
This morning I went out to the garden to set some new beer traps and jars of cornmeal for the slugs. They have been devouring our peanut plants, strawberries and corn plants for the past couple of weeks and it’s time to bring this to an end. Otherwise the only thing that will survive are the strawberry plants with no fruit at all…and big, fat, happy slugs of course. While I was out there I was... read more

Create your own beverage garden
We have lots of space for herbs in our garden and several herbs are already thriving there. Our lavender bushes have come back nicely and even the small one I moved is starting to show some signs of life. The bay leaves we transplanted are also doing very well and we have another unidentified herb (sage perhaps?) which has sprung back to life after the transplant even though I thought I had completely... read more

Fabulous Farmhouse Searches
If you read our Self-Reliant Yuppies blog, you probably noticed that we are going to be starting a new weekly feature (at least I’ll be trying lol) featuring the 5 top searches from the past week. We don’t really get too many strange ones but I always do find them interesting. You just never know what will pop up Farm house in Germany Yes, you found us. We have one of those If... read more

The plants are back in the ground
I’m going to try to catch up on a few LONG overdue posts so here’s a start. May 1st was a holiday here in Germany. Since S was out of town for business during the weekend, he decided to take Monday off so we would basically still have a weekend…and a very short work week. Always a nice thing. Naturally the time off was spent working on things around the house…and we FINALLY put... read more

More seeds planted and new arrivals
Yesterday was a pretty good day for deliveries. The new SD card for our digital camera arrived so there will once again be pictures…and our order from exoga also has arrived. I have to say I really love that place. I wish the SD card had been here already when the plants arrived, all very creatively packaged in the shipping box…but alas, you’ll just have to order some plants from them... read more
