What went on last Saturday

After we got as far along as we could on Friday, Covey came out on Saturday to make some further progress on the drywall. There was plenty to be done so he arrived at 8:30am and brought his son along to help out a bit. His son is 12 and apparently wants to follow in his father’s footsteps…but his dad keeps telling him that living the life of a contractor is not the way to go. At any rate, his... read more

What happened last Friday

As we mentioned in our post yesterday, a lot has transpired lately and we just haven’t taken the time to sit down and take it all in. But we did take photos and there isn’t really much I can do around here with so many workers running all over the place SO it’s a good time to blog and catch up On Friday, Macky was supposed to be here but as we’ve mentioned, he never showed. He... read more

Lots of news….

A lot has happened on the farm in the last few days and we haven’t been awake enough in the last few evenings to keep up with Blogging. Things are really moving forward though. Stefan was quite successful in getting the plumbing started. Actually, we got everything done except connecting the various parts of the piping around the room together. Mostly, we left the four different sections apart for... read more

Smashing glass is hard work

Yesterday we posted about our recent success while working on the exterior base wall of the main house. Today we planned to plug a few holes where some of the bird housing used to be…and since we’d have plenty of mortar left over from those places, Stefan planned to knock out the glass windows in the horse stables which we’ll be bricking up so he could do everything at once. We went to... read more

It’s on…. a monster of a project is happening!

It has been pretty quiet for a while from us and if you read my last post about playing with chalk you know why. It’s now official – Stefan is changing jobs and will have three months of vacation, starting this week. This means we will finally have time to start on the guest house. As usual, our plans are grand and our budget is not, but so far it looks like we have finally learned to budget... read more

We’re up to no good with chalk

We haven’t been posting much lately because we just haven’t been doing much around the house. Stefan had been pretty burnt out from work so we haven’t even been working on any little projects around the house. But we’re going to make up for it now. Stefan is starting 3 months of vacation (God willing) and we have very big plans in store for the house during that time. We’ve... read more

More clean up is complete

We had guests here this weekend which I’ve mentioned a few times. We decided on Thursday that it would be much nicer if the yucky yellow container was gone from the courtyard so we requested that it be picked up on Friday afternoon. But it was nowhere near full on Thursday morning so we had to get to work. I mentioned the areas we’d be targeting in a post on the 29th…and we got two of... read more

What goes in this container?

Once again an empty container is sitting in our courtyard. It’s actually very hard for me to not go out there and start filling it up the second it arrives…but that’s not fair to Stefan who is still at work…and it’s looking like it will start pouring rain at any second so perhaps it’s better to stay inside where it’s dry. We’re supposed to get some light rain... read more

From horses to house guests

For the past week or so we have been thinking hard and putting some of our ideas for the horse stall transformation down on paper. Unfortunately we haven’t had much luck drawing everything out in Google SketchUp. As much potential as that program has, it really isn’t all that easy for a novice to use. So we may have to break down one of these days and buy a home design software. But for the... read more

The next major renovations

Here is a list of the next major projects we intend to take on. It’s basically also in order of the timeline we aim to tackle them in. Note that these are only the ones we want to do ourselves. Other things we need Macky for, but those are the subject of another list. 1) Patio Basically we need to set some drywall in the back to cover the back wall. The stones are over-salted from all the chicken... read more
