The new living room and Gapseal

You might recall that I was gabbing about our living room remodel on Thursday. I am happy to say that it is mostly complete (aside from hooking up a few things like our media PC and Wii, and putting a few more things away) and it is fabulous! Now we just need a whole bunch of new frames and prints of photos we’ve taken to put in them! Before we started moving everything around, I asked... read more

Sucked in again by impulse buys

I went to IKEA last week with my mom because she wanted to pick up a few goodies that she noticed us using around the house. Two of the things on her list are items that I use all the time and absolutely love: the KONCIS garlic press and the CHARM (now CHOSIGT) cheese grater containers (below). The garlic press has proved to be nearly indestructible, even with the huge garlic cloves we put in it. And the... read more

Hello, my name is Tiffany…and I have an organizing addiction.

Those who know me well might compare me to Monica from Friends. I have some slight OCD tendencies (stop laughing those who are scoffing that “slight” as being generous) and while I may not have our house spotless all the time (I just don’t have the time for it), I do love organization. Which is why I am kinda stoked to show off what the drawer under our cooking field now looks... read more

Goodbye dear old friend

It’s sperrmüll time again here and that means there are piles of junk on every street corner in our town, along with tons of white panel vans with Polish license plates cruising around. The vans started appearing on Saturday morning already, waiting with anticipation as people put things out over the weekend. It’s incredible to me how much stuff people find to throw away on these trash... read more

So hard to say “I’m sorry”

We took a trip to IKEA today. It wasn’t so bad. The store was fairly empty and we got some really good ideas for the house. We have quite a few rooms that will be getting a makeover, mostly because we have to make some space for Mackenzie. Her room (currently our guest room/catch-all room) is mostly our closet right now and obviously that has to change. We also have an extra sofa in there which we... read more

Some of the baby gear we still have to get…

I haven’t written much about the nursery or what we’re planning to do in there…so I figured I would post a few links to the furniture, bedding and so on that we’ve picked out from IKEA. Yes, IKEA. Not too original on our behalf but the value for money still can’t be beat. Plus we just like what they have to offer. The bedding, decor accessories and such are all called... read more

Some say you get what you pay for….

This post was a bit too painful for me to make three weeks ago when this actually happened…but I guess time has dulled the pain a bit. My wonderful husband bought me 120 multi-colored tulips for Valentine’s Day and our house was just filled with them. I actually had a buy a couple of vases because I didn’t have anything I could put them all in. So we ended up buying two large glass... read more

An electric Newf

Hey all you dogs! Ayla here with a quick note to say “hi” to everyone since it’s been forever since I was last here. It seems a lot of my blogging puppy friends are also on hiatus these days – guess with the holiday season being upon us everyone is out having fun instead of sitting in front of their computers – as they should be! Anyway, not much has been happening since we... read more

If you read our Self-Reliant Yuppies blog, you probably noticed that we are going to be starting a new weekly feature (at least I’ll be trying lol) featuring the 5 top searches from the past week. We don’t really get too many strange ones but I always do find them interesting. You just never know what will pop up Farm house in Germany Yes, you found us. We have one of those If... read more

Keeping cool in the heat

We’ve had temperatures in the 80s and will approach 90 degrees F tomorrow (31 degrees C) which doesn’t seem that terrible unless you’re wearing a massive, black fur coat. Thankfully it’s still quite cool in the mornings when we go for a walk but the afternoons and evenings are very warm. I’ve actually started carrying a 1.5 liter bottle of water with us everywhere which is... read more
