More window frosting
I actually did this little project a few weeks ago but I just kept forgetting to post anything about it. Much like the windows in our downstairs bathroom, we used Amorf Frost frosting foil from IKEA to cover these windows. It’s a simple enough process: Scrape the edges of the window with a flat razor blade to remove any paint Clean window and edges with Windex to get all the dirt off so you get a... read more

Elephant is back in the game
Apparently I’ve never mentioned him before, but Ayla has a stuffed blue and orange elephant toy from IKEA that she really loves. We love buying toys for her there because they’re cheaper than dog toys but safe for babies and therefore dogs…and just super cute. I drove hubby to work this morning because he’s flying out of town tonight for a company off-site meeting…in Monaco.... read more

Throwing away more junk
We really wanted to work on the greenhouse some more today but it’s Sunday and we’re supposed to be fairly quiet. So we decided to work on finally filling up the trash container sitting in the courtyard so it can be hauled off (it’s been here close to a month now I guess). We have been talking about expanding the workshop table in the barn but needed to take out a bunch of shelving and... read more

The new Ikea (…and an even nicer Hornbach)
This morning we headed out to Ikea to redeem our gift certificate. A new one has opened close to us a few days ago and we wanted to check it out. First off, I have to say that I hate the wording Ikea uses in its letters. The certificate stated “use this at your Ikea”, what is that supposed to mean? Is that the one I bought my other stuff at, making it my Ikea I regularly go to, or do they mean... read more

It’s FOUND!!!
In case you are keeping up with me today – the certificate from IKEA has been found. I apparently stuck it in one of the bins under my desk at some point and thankfully it didn’t migrate from there. I only had to go through the trash first which I thankfully haven’t emptied in here for a while. Woohoo. Now it’s time to determine which store we’ll go to. They just opened one... read more

Back to IKEA once again
It’s been a few weeks since our last trip to IKEA and there isn’t really anything we must have from there right now…but when we bought our kitchen they had a special program going because a tax increase was going into effect here in Germany. This allowed us to get a 3% rebate from the purchase of the kitchen which comes as a gift certificate for IKEA. There is almost always something we... read more

It’s almost like a peep show…
For weeks (well even months now since we’ve been living here two months already) we have been talking about getting curtains to put back in the bathroom downstairs. There were once lace curtains which hung on the window itself so they wouldn’t interfere when the window needs to be opened. We took the curtains down to wash them and never put them back up because it would have been more hassle... read more

Taking it easy for a change
After not doing much of anything yesterday, we sprang back to life a bit today. We’ve had quite nice weather the last few days, with temps around 50 degrees and lots of sun. It’s definitely making us wish the summer was here already but it’s nice to have these little tastes of just how great it’s going to be here when it gets warmer. Sure, it’s already great in the cold but we... read more

New lamp for the bathroom
After all the other things that we were doing this weekend, I almost forgot that we also installed a new lamp in the bathroom upstairs. We found one at IKEA that we thought would work and it does look quite good in there. We also bought one for the office downstairs but unfortunately it is not really the right lamp. In fact, the location of the hook up is really not great either so we may go with a desk... read more

Planning for the weekend
Tomorrow we will once again attempt to pick up the sink cabinet for our new upstairs bath from IKEA. Their online system is saying they have it back in stock and we’re both really hoping that it will still be in stock by the time we get there tomorrow. We thought about going yesterday but hubby wasn’t really in the mood when he came home because he’d had a pretty crummy day at work. And... read more
