Capturing Apples
This week, Beth from I Should Be Folding Laundry challenged us with “apples.” It just so happens that we have lots of those around right now. In fact, we will probably be harvesting 100 pounds or so of our own apples this weekend, and pressing them for juice. Thankfully we still have apples in our trees and not these on the ground… Or one of the rotten ones like this which was still on... read more

10 Great Things About A Waldkindergarten
Mackenzie is going to be starting pre-kindergarten at the beginning of November (if we get things moving along with the potty training) and we thought she would be ending up in a regular, run of the mill preschool setting down the street from us. We have two kindergartens in our little town, both easily within walking distance. But we selected the older one next to the elementary school because our... read more

Capturing fruit
I’m figuring I might have had this challenge a bit easier than some, because we have a lovely fruit orchard nearby where we always walk the dog. So yesterday, I grabbed my camera as we were leaving and took some shots along the way. I’m almost surprised that I didn’t wait until the last minute to take these! I even briefly thought about taking my camera into the local market stand with... read more

Des gibts doch nicht!
I cannot believe the words I am about to type… Sometime in the very wee hours of Sunday morning, car capers rode down our street and stopped at Stefan’s car. And then they apparently worked their car theft magic and were probably inside and driving away in about a minute. Chances are, we’ll never see that BWM 750i ever again. Stefan is definitely in mourning because he really loved that... read more

In our thoughts and prayers
At 2:15 this morning, Stefan and I both sat upright in bed and asked, “What the hell was that?” The sound of crushing, twisting metal on the street below our bedroom window was unmistakable. But we never could have anticipated what the situation would look like when we went to the window. The scene was something like this, minus all the firemen and other people milling around: It was also a... read more

Woof Wednesday: Beware of the treats
Hello my pawed pals! Hope you’re having a great week. I’m popping in today to talk about something really scary and I hope I don’t freak you out. But you really need to know that there are some disturbed people in the world who really don’t like dogs and cats…and possibly even small children. My mom was reading one of the local papers this morning and the next town over is... read more

The recent flooding in Germany
This past weekend was absolutely gorgeous here in Germany. It’s been in the 50′s and the sun was shining brightly on Sunday, not a cloud in the sky. It was a very nice break from the rain and gray skies we’ve been having…and which are typical of Frankfurt winters. And somehow it feels like spring already, even though I know it’s only mid-January. But a girl can dream. You... read more

Capturing the last flowers of the year
So our assignment this week for You Capture was flowers. When Stefan asked about the topic, and I said flowers…he sorta scoffed at me. Great time of year for flowers, right? But even though fall is clearly all around us and some of the trees have incredible washes of color already, there are surprisingly still tons of flowers to photograph. Many of them came late…and others are just getting... read more

Capturing signs
Yeah! It’s Thursday again. And we all know what that means…almost weekend! The theme for You Capture this week was signs…and I was a little more stumped about this one at first. But when I finally went out with my camera into the great wide open, the signs were everywhere. Some of my signs are literally signs on posts…but others are more subtle signs form nature. Hope you enjoy! And... read more

Lantern Fest Fun Part 2: Kings, Queens and Alcohol
Alright, I intended to post these yesterday…but well, there just wasn’t time. So you get them as a dose of Friday fun instead! These were all shot during the Saturday night parade here in our village. It’s always a great time and there was a really nice turnout this year. Way more teens than ever before. And since I brought the big zoom lens, I was able to get a whole new dimension of... read more
