Woof Wednesday: Where I’ve roamed lately
Morning friends! I am still SO tired after all the visitors and excitement we had last week. First we had people here during the week…with a new baby! Excitement!! And then over the weekend we had more people here. Plus fireworks on Monday night which caused me to crawl right up into mom’s lap for protection. And tomorrow we are getting visitors AGAIN! A dog’s work is just never done. I... read more

Lantern Fest Fun Part 1: Bands and Friends
This year our Lantern Fest celebration was a bit more subdued than in other years. We didn’t have as many people visiting and we just weren’t as excited as usual about the festivities leading up to the weekend…but we did still manage to have a lot of fun. And it’s nice to take it more slowly during celebrations than feeling rushed and crazy the whole time. We recently got ourselves... read more

How to can potatoes
Because our neighbors have a huge potato farming operation, we have the opportunity to forage tons of potatoes for free. Ok, maybe not tons, but many, many pounds. More than we can carry at once and more than I’d like to think about having in my kitchen waiting to be canned at one time. The best news about these potatoes is that they are PERFECT for canning because they are small and oh so... read more

Woof Wednesday: Woah, there’s a new doggie beach!
Hello all my wonderful anipals & human friends! I know I’m a day late but what can you do? Mom was too busy to help me finish my post yesterday and she said that since it’s her birthday today, she can do what she wants to do. It’s her blog, after all. Winter is arriving here in Germany and it’s like heaven on earth. Every day it seems to get a little bit colder (which is... read more

The Lanternfest 2009 – Parade photos
It’s been over a month since the greatest little party on earth, aka Lanternfest, and I figured it’s about time I get these photos online. Also, we’re going to be attending another one of the biggest great parties on earth, Oktoberfest, this weekend so I figured it would be nice to remember our party a bit more before attending that one. Not that their parade has anything on ours! The... read more

A dangerous rum party punch that will leave you tipsy
Although we weren’t looking to get too destroyed over the course of the day, Lanternfest is all about getting your party on. So instead of stocking up on tons of beer, we decided to give rum punch a try. I found a recipe that called for orange juice and lemonade concentrate – two things that are not readily available here in Germany. So as usual, I modified and made it work. The flavor of this... read more

Pretzels that will spice up any party
You may have noticed by now that I’m one of those people who prefers to go beyond the normal mode of operation when it comes to entertaining. I may not have a flair for presentation yet or make the coolest decor, but I’m one hell of a cook lately which is an important start. Best to get the basics down before you start worrying about it looking good. Unless you can’t cook at all and need... read more

The Lanternfest 2009 – Saturday was full of food, friends & FUN
The Lantern Festival in Buedesheim is an event we look forward to every year – as do our friends. Most of the 5 friends visiting us on Saturday have been at the fest for the last 3 years with us. Once they’d seen it for the first time, they were as hooked as we were. This was also Mackenzie’s first Lantern Festival outside of the womb and although she didn’t get to experience as... read more

The weekend ahead – Lanternfest is almost here!
Most of the week I’ve been gearing up for the Lanternfest held every year in our little town. It’s a town-wide party and you run into almost everyone you know at some point during the event. Some you’ll see during the parades on Saturday and Sunday night, others you’ll run into during the bands and events at the fair grounds, and others you won’t bump into until the last event... read more

Woof Wednesday: Pure art, the Newfie way
My dearest pooch pals and non-fur friends, How’s your summer going?? Mine has been heavenly. After a couple weeks of far too hot weather in the upper 90′s, it cooled down again to the 80′s, rained a bunch, was overcast…and in my opinion was just lovely. Except for maybe the rain. I could have done without all that. My coat gets too heavy when its wet. Today it’s another... read more
