Amazingly awesome neighbors
Regardless of where you live, there are few things as important as good neighbors. We have been incredibly blessed to live across the street from the nicest family on the planet. They go out of their way to help others out and he’s really a jack of all trades. We’ll call him R. Anything you can dream up that involves building, repairing, renovating or overhauling (from homes to bicycles to... read more

In our thoughts and prayers
At 2:15 this morning, Stefan and I both sat upright in bed and asked, “What the hell was that?” The sound of crushing, twisting metal on the street below our bedroom window was unmistakable. But we never could have anticipated what the situation would look like when we went to the window. The scene was something like this, minus all the firemen and other people milling around: It was also a... read more

Tupperware invasion
I’m going to my first Tupperware party this afternoon. I have to admit that it will be my first, ever. And I’m a bit scared about what I might be inclined to buy. Our neighbor across the street is hosting the party and her daughter is the same age as Mack. In fact, her daughter claims that Mackenzie is her best friend, even though they only see each other about once a week during mommy/toddler... read more

Woof Wednesday: Loving on my neighbors
Good morning world! Well, as you’ve probably heard by now it’s been quite a week for me. My humans were in a pretty bad car accident last week and I unfortunately had no idea what had happened to them for a few days. But on Tuesday I got to stay with our neighbors (who I LOVE) and their Golden Retriever, Mani. The neighbors came to get me on Tuesday and I was a bit concerned. On the other... read more

Man, I’ve never been that ripped
“The door bell just rang,” I said to Stefan in half-slumber. “Whaa?” We both sprang out of the bed (me a bit slower as I moved around Mack, trying to make sure she didn’t wake up just yet) and started looking out the windows of our bedroom. “It’s a woman with a dog…but I don’t know her,” I said. “It’s 8am on a Sunday. What could... read more

Looks a bit American…
So my MIL & FIL were standing outside our house the other day and an older lady was walking by. She stopped to chat and mentioned that the decorations on the house looked really nice, “although they are a bit American. Not that that is a bad thing.” We got a good laugh from that comment and I guess I have to agree; but I don’t take any offense. American’s still usually make an... read more

A little inspiration from our neighbors
Last Saturday after Stefan’s parents headed home, we got the chance to go tour our neighbor’s beautiful timber frame (“fachwerk”) house. We have been trying and meaning to get over there for months, after finally speaking to the owner for the first time many months ago while out walking Ayla. He told us then to drop by whenever their front gate was open and they’d be happy to... read more

A little begonia love
We were out for a walk with Ayla today and as we passed by one house, I saw the man of the house vacuuming his begonias in his garage. He had taken the plant with its hanging basket to a bench where he sat it down to vacuum it. What he was vacuuming up I can’t say. Maybe he found some aphids on his like I did on the wisteria outside our bedroom window this morning. Or maybe he was removing dead... read more

You want to walk her for me?
Just back from my morning walk with Ayla. Ran into someone with a pretty cute Spaniel of some sort (something hunting dog-ish) and her dog was quite the spazz. He wanted to eat Ayla so I had to hold her back a bit…she thinks a dog baring his teeth is some sort of wild & crazy game. Yes, she is an airhead. Another one of our neighbors was Nordic walking up the path behind us and when she got to... read more

A solution for the windows
As we where cleaning out the tiles (yes, those tiles) from the stables, waiting for the container to show up, we saw our neighbor the window maker drive by with his truck. We decided we should ask him about the possibility of using insulated frosted glass panes in the openings of the stable doors. He immediately came over to measure and had a few different options in mind for getting decent insulation... read more
