Before and After: New Bathroom Upstairs
When we bought the house, there was only one bathroom indoors. We also have an outhouse in the courtyard but how practical is it to run outside in the middle of winter to do your business? Certainly better than nothing but still not a pleasant thought. The bathroom downstairs was added in the early 1980′s (hence the love avocado coloring it once had) but unfortunately didn’t include a standing... read more

All hooked up
So Macky has left and won’t be back until the new door arrives for the office. He thinks it should be here sometime this week so he’ll give us a call. He also has some trim to finish out in the entry hall but at least the more major tasks are complete now. The dishwasher definitely doesn’t seem to be leaking anymore although the faucet drips in the bath upstairs…something new to add... read more

Macky’s back to finish a few things up
We talked to Macky yesterday to let him know that our sink cabinet had finally arrived and that we’d like him to come by when he had to set it up, finally move the connection for the dishwasher so that we can move the kitchen cabinets back and get the counter top ordered, and deal with a few new little problems we’ve encountered such as the leak under the kitchen sink and the leaks around the... read more

New lamp for the bathroom
After all the other things that we were doing this weekend, I almost forgot that we also installed a new lamp in the bathroom upstairs. We found one at IKEA that we thought would work and it does look quite good in there. We also bought one for the office downstairs but unfortunately it is not really the right lamp. In fact, the location of the hook up is really not great either so we may go with a desk... read more

The bathroom is finally ready for use
At about 6:30 pm yesterday, Macky and Robert finished up the bathroom. I was quite ready for them to get out of here but also happy that they were taking the time to get everything done with now so they wouldn’t need to come back today to finish things up (although they have a bunch of small stuff to take care of still anyway but we won’t get started on that right now, so early in the morning).... read more

Success finally
Not only did I finally get everything worked out on our PC so I can run the needed updates and hopefully install the network card to work with our new router, but they are finished installing the toilet and shower fixtures and are taking the larger of the two glass walls upstairs now. Almost surprisingly, it actually fit up the staircase without any chaos which was making me a bit nervous lately. So now... read more

The new bathroom is nearly finished
Macky has left for the day and gotten everything accomplished that he was planning to. The tile is in and it looks great. So all he’ll need to do on Monday is grout the floor, install the shower walls and the toilet. We haven’t been able to get the sink cabinet yet so either we’ll install the sink ourselves later or get Macky to do it since he’ll probably be here soon enough doing... read more

A first coat of paint
Our contracter is actually working today. Apparently he wants to get this job done over with as well. He’s done the first coat of paint already this morning and will be laying the tile this afternoon. It’s definitely starting to look great in... read more

And then there was grout
Macky called it quits fairly early today but I can’t really complain since he still did some decent work and not necessarily fun work. After he finished the step, he spent the next couple of hours grouting the tile on the walls. It’s pretty amazing just how different things look with the white grout versus the lack of grout which gave the spaces a really dark look. It certainly would have... read more

Coming right along…
So apparently I kinda suck at my job of property manager (or whatever you want to call it) because I am a bit shy when it comes to asking people to do things. So yesterday we realized that the step for the shower is not in existence yet but it certainly needs to be because otherwise we won’t be able to get into the shower. So I talked to Macky when he got here this morning and, as always, he was... read more
