Been too long
So I’ve gotten some complaints from friends & family that I’m not keeping up my blog very well at this point. Very true I had to admit but my response has simply been that things are not all that exciting in her life at the moment. Sure there are the truly fantastic moments when she gets a new cardboard box to play with and she does love standing on the patio table outside which drives me... read more

Frisbee for all
So I think I’ve mentioned before that we now have a Frisbee for Ayla to play with outside…and it has helped us to realize that we really enjoy throwing it back and forth to each other while she plays with something else. Of course we can’t just confiscate the dog’s toy for ourselves so we throw it for her a little but she doesn’t really know the meaning of bring or give or... read more

High Energy Wednesday
Is it possibly that it’s only 8 am?? Feels like I’ve been awake all day already. At 6 am we went for our first walk since Ayla was SOOO full of energy after Stefan let her out to take care of her morning business. Playing in the yard is definitely not an option this morning since it was raining all night and to say the yard is wet is rather an understatement. Of course drying off the dog can... read more

Have a water phobia? Beware of Newfoundlands
It’s pretty common knowledge that Newfs love water and Ayla is definitely no different. She was outside today with her water bowl and instead of drinking everything in it, she decided it would be better to use her paws to get all the water out of the bowl as fast as possible. A new sort of game I guess you could say. I would have thought that she would then lay in the water too cool off or just... read more

Is this the same puppy?
So today we got to pick Ayla back up from the breeders and we almost started to think that we had brought home the wrong dog because she was on her very best behavior. I guess romping around in the back yard with mommy, sister and brother was enough excitement to wear her out for hours. But they do say that a good dog is a tired dog which was very true yesterday. They definitely seem to have been working... read more

Busy morning with the new puppy
Anyone who thinks that your life doesn’t change when you get a dog has obviously never had one before…or at least not a puppy. It is not even 9 am and we have had more antics and human interaction this morning than we usually have in an entire day or even weekend. Ayla had her first real face to face experience with Mary…well maybe I should say paw to face. Marilyn has now decided that... read more

Food control is working on doggo
So I tried the food control method for lunch and it worked really well. After the first couple of times of putting the food back on the counter when she lunged for it, she seemed to get the message very quickly. Of course she is HIGHLY motivated by food so that helps. And she usually seems to pick things up quickly so we’ll see if she’s retained anything when we try again for dinner. She could... read more

Friday has arrived – Time for some training
Is it a full moon or something? This morning at about 4:30, Ayla decided to break out of her crate. Don’t know if it was us being careless with the side door on her crate or if she’s getting smart enough to open it herself (not my favorite scenario to be honest) but we are definitely going to have to start checking that much more closely. Especially since we are planning to start her crate... read more

The Great Escape
Today Marilyn, our Siamese mix, decided to make a break for it. I guess all the barking and training and fluffy dog nonsense has just gotten to be too much for her. For the most part, it has seemed that the cats were adjusting relatively well to Ayla. They have never been overly loving cats (they’re cats after all) and come to us when they want attention. But of course with a dog around all the time... read more

Happy Hump Day
So it’s Wednesday once again which is always a good sign cause it’s all down hill from here. The week I mean…and in a good way. Thursday and Friday generally pass so quickly that I already start feeling relieved on Thursday. Since the weather is so nice today, we’ve spent a lot of time outdoors. Thankfully we have plenty of shade in the yard so Ayla has plenty of corners to creep... read more
