A mostly quiet Sunday at home
Today was a pretty uneventful day. Since it’s pretty cold here (not for Newfie standards of course), we played inside a lot and tried to distract her during her crazy nipping periods (not quite a FRAP) with some obedience training (Sit, Come, Down…). She has picked up Down pretty well now thanks to lots of treats. We’ve found the “Good Owners, Great Dogs” book to be pretty... read more

Our first walk with Ayla
Today was a very exciting day for us. We had to do some grocery shopping and wanted to buy the material for the new patio today so we decided the easiest way to accomplish the task was to take Ayla along with us and one person would stay in the car with her while the other went into the store. Of course one of us could have stayed home while the other did the shopping but we figured that getting Ayla more... read more

Friday night antics
It seems Ayla is starting to learn her toys very well now…Thankfully my husband brought some new items home with him today that will hopefully amuse her. She has a red kong shaped like a bone which you can stuff small treats into. The first few days she would nose it around the room. She started using her feet to push it quickly after. But today she started picking it up in her mouth and tossing it... read more

Lazy afternoon with Ayla
It’s been a good afternoon but I really can’t let me eyes off her for a second. She was just waking up when a good friend called and while I was on the phone with her, Ayla had too accidents in the house in the span of 10 minutes, despite having just been outside. Apparently we’re not too keen on someone or something else having the attention in this house. In addition, I was making... read more

Ayla is back to normal
Whatever her problem was yesterday, she is thankfully back to “normal” today. I’m hoping the crazy, hyper, nutso, jumping dog behavior is not something we’ll have to deal with every day but I guess we’ll soon see. We tried a new system this morning. When the hubby takes her out in the morning I get up and get dressed and all that. He stays with her downstairs til I finish his... read more

Been a rough day with the new puppy
Well it was a pretty bad day for me today. Ayla has been sleeping through the night since her first full day here but it still seems that no matter how much I sleep at night (all 6 1/2 hours), I’m just not very rested in the morning. So I woke up today feeling pretty miserable and Ayla was having a particularly boisterous morning so it culminated in me feeling really depressed and that probably only... read more

The first day alone with Ayla
Today went better than expected. We had very few accidents in the house which means I must have really been paying attention and we had some ok play time too. It seems that just when I start getting bored with the toys, she gets sleepy so that’s a good thing I guess. Definitely going to have stock up on some new things to chew on but at least now we know what she’ll play with and what she... read more

A Day In The Yard with Ayla
Today was a big day. We got to meet the lawnmower, which obviously isn’t nearly as interesting as eating ivy out of the flower beds. “I hate the stuff anyway,” was my hubby’s response. Can’t be good news for the ivy….we also like eating grass clippings, bark, dirt, moss and just about anything else we can get our puppy mouth around. Going to be a very interesting time.... read more

Having a new puppy at home – Day 1
So we’re still feeling some of that “wow, we have a puppy” shock from time to time but it’s getting a lot less. We are crating Ayla at night so we can all get some sleep and we had a 2:30am wake up call this morning which wasn’t exactly fun…especially when we got out there and she didn’t have to pee or anything. We’re definitely looking forward to warmer... read more
