A progress report from 3 long days of work!
Well, it’s taken a few days to recover but the marathon of work while Stefan’s parents were here has come to a close for now. We still have a few other small project that we are working on (like the mudroom which I’ll post about in a bit) but we accomplished some very big tasks over the 3 days they were here working with us. I know you’re curious about everything so here... read more

And now trash excites me…
I’ve probably mentioned it before but we have 4 trash cans which are used on a regular basis here: Blue for paper, Black for regular household trash, Green for garden cuttings and Brown for biotrash. In addition, we also have special yellow plastic sacks for the disposal of packaging and plastic items. Quite a bit to keep up with but at least I feel like I’m doing something for the environment... read more

Another big week…. moving closer to finish
This week really is another big week. Kovey finished the dry wall yesterday and we gladly sent him on his way. We haggled on the price some more, given that the ceiling in the mud room wasn’t included after all but we came to conclusion that was good for all. All of the drywalling is done now, including the walk in closet which ended up being a bit of a pain, since none of the walls in there are... read more

Not much progress today
This morning we had to track down a package from LL Bean (a company which we really love) and unfortunately had to spend two hours in the customs office while they held our package hostage. FedEx has had the package for a month now and was actually going to ship the box back today. We arrived just in time to save it. They were supposedly trying to contact us via email and couldn’t find a phone number... read more

More clean up is complete
We had guests here this weekend which I’ve mentioned a few times. We decided on Thursday that it would be much nicer if the yucky yellow container was gone from the courtyard so we requested that it be picked up on Friday afternoon. But it was nowhere near full on Thursday morning so we had to get to work. I mentioned the areas we’d be targeting in a post on the 29th…and we got two of... read more

What goes in this container?
Once again an empty container is sitting in our courtyard. It’s actually very hard for me to not go out there and start filling it up the second it arrives…but that’s not fair to Stefan who is still at work…and it’s looking like it will start pouring rain at any second so perhaps it’s better to stay inside where it’s dry. We’re supposed to get some light rain... read more

A brilliant idea for a woodworking shop
This is a repost from our blog Self-Reliant Yuppies. Since it discusses projects that are going on within our farm, I figured those who aren’t reading that blog might find it interesting There’s a houseblog called Brooklyn Rowhouse that I love to read when I have the chance. Steve, the blog owner has done some amazing woodworking projects in his house. He recently posted about cleaning up his... read more

Throwing away more junk
We really wanted to work on the greenhouse some more today but it’s Sunday and we’re supposed to be fairly quiet. So we decided to work on finally filling up the trash container sitting in the courtyard so it can be hauled off (it’s been here close to a month now I guess). We have been talking about expanding the workshop table in the barn but needed to take out a bunch of shelving and... read more

It’s container time!!
Today has been a long day around here. I had to wait for our garden trash container to be picked up and replaced with a regular trash container and since they didn’t come until about 2pm, I was very thankful that I ran all the errands I needed to on Wednesday so I wasn’t going crazy by the time he arrived. Naturally I ended up looking like a silly woman when it did arrive and I was trying to... read more

A new container cometh
Yes, it’s that time again. We are having the bio container picked up today and they are bringing us a new miscellaneous trash container. I have to say I’m rather pleased since we already have a pile of stuff in the barn that we will be targeting along with the bird cages. We’re probably going to keep a few of them for our chicken venture although we might have to modify them since the... read more
