As usual, we were up at 6:45 with Ayla. Her internal alarm clock truly is something lol.

We planned to be on the road by 8 am since we knew we had about 10 hours of driving ahead of us without any stops and we didn’t want to get back home too late since hubby had to be back in the office the next day.

We actually managed to get out of the campground on time. We packed up quite a few things when we came back from dinner last night which we knew we wouldn’t be needing this morning so all we really needed to do was break down the tent, secure everything on the roof and then say our good-byes.

Overall the trip home was uneventful and not terrible at all. We drove in approx. 3 hour shifts. The great thing about the Defender is that you can drive for hours and hours and not feel worn out. Perhaps it’s because you have to go relatively slow and I’m sure the really comfy seats don’t hurt but we blew through the 1000 km in less than 12 hours, stopping something like 4 times for gas, some breakfast and to let the dog do her business.

For the most part, she was completely content to just stay in the truck and a few times looked at us like were crazy when we told her to come on out for a break. She slept most of the trip and, as usual, we barely heard a peep out of her.

We’re quite happy to be home although the trip was fantastic. I’m pretty sure we’ll be visiting Tuscany again soon although I doubt Venice will be back on our list of places to see unless Ayla seems to be dying for attention.
