Oh yes, it’s true. November 15th is official Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. It would seem we can thank the Whirlpool Corporation for this one. Maybe they think some people will consider cleaning out the fridge too much effort and will just buy a new fridge instead. It’s an interesting concept…
To really clean your fridge, do the following:
- Remove everything from your fridge
- Remove the shelves and bins.
- Wash everything. Wipe down and disinfect entire inside of fridge and along door seal.
- Wipe down jars and bottles as you put them back in the fridge, especially those with drips on them. Make sure to get the bottoms as well.
- Vacuum the coils at the back of your fridge (if there are any) and remove any dust bunnies.
- Clean the floor underneath the fridge.
- Wipe off top of fridge.
Now usually I wouldn’t care about something like this…but since we have a baby coming and the holidays are approaching, this seems like the perfect opportunity to pay some attention to our fridge. Maybe it’s just the nesting urges that come with the final weeks of pregnancy. At any rate, I jumped the gun and started cleaning the fridge Wednesday night already. Stefan was out and I felt like moving and using my camera. I do still have to do the drawers, though, cause they’re grungy…but also full of food. At least by Saturday they should have a few less things in them.
I took photos of my progress. The door doesn’t look all that different because all the stuff at the top I use on a regular basis…and I threw away a few questionable salad dressings a few days ago. Got ahead of myself I guess.
Although the main shelves look extremely empty, I actually didn’t get rid of much. Instead I condensed stuff into the doors and on the bottom shelf. I moved the shelves a bit too compensate for the changes.
So now you’ve seen how it’s done. No more excuses…get in there and just attack it. It won’t take as long as you think…and at least I’m not trying to convince you to defrost your freezer!
That looks great! I’m not sure if it’s enough to inspire me to clean out my fridge, but I should…
It really needs it.
Darn, I missed it, guess I will just have to wait until next Nov. 15th to clean my fridge. LOL
If you have a sudden urge to vacuum as well, make sure those bags are packed first, you are nesting.
