After weeks of delays from contractor and other mishaps we have finally reached the end of the rough build out. This morning at 8.30h Macky arrived with a helper in tow and promptly set out the fix the piping. It turns out they had to replace a pipe and now we should be 100% dry.
At 9.06h the big truck with the Screed arrived. To say we where excited was an understatement.
Here you can see the concrete mixer pouring the screed on tarps we laid out in the courtyard. This is just about 75% of the final amount, but we forgot to photograph it. In all we had ordered 1.5 cubic meters, about the same amount we used on the greenhouse foundation – but we mixed that ourselves.
Since one of our two shovels magically disappered with the last round of contractors, hubby took over the shoveling, as well as driving the wheelbarrow. I helped him a few times in between taking over a few loads and the contractor guy who’s name we are not sure of spread out the screed and made sure everything is level.
We learned once again, that our house is very crooked as we needed only 4cm of screed in some places and 11cm in others – we planned for a uniform depth of 7cm. Perfect, we now have even floors. In the end we have a bit of screed left over which will need to go into the container tomorrow – yep, another one. We covered it in tarps and wet it down well and hope it won’t be a 100% dry mass tomorrow morning when the container gets here.
Now there is only about 2 weeks left until we can finish the guest house. The screed should be dry enough to walk on by Wednesday, which means we can start finish sanding the walls and touch up things Kovey just did a poor job on.
Thursday of this week we can start on tiling the bathroom walls – this should take roughly 3 days we figure (as tile newbies).
Monday we should be able to start painting the walls and begin laying the bathroom floor tile. We are figuring another three days for that.
Monday after that the screed should be dry enough for laminate, the last major project on the guest house. Figure in 2 days for special touches and furniture and we are set for a completion date on December 17th. Wow, cutting it a bit close to Christmas – Hubby’s parents are visiting and we definitely want to have it ready for them.
