The repairman was here at about 11am to check out the washer/dryer we have. He showed me that it was the carbon brushes inside the motor that were causing the trouble and informed me that it would be just under 200 euros to make the repair. Since buying a new machine would run us somewhere around 500+ euros, I of course told him to go for it. We’ve had this machine for just over 6 years now and this is the first trouble we’ve had with it so I guess we can’t complain too much.

In the picture below you can see the “brush” on the left sticking out into the center of the circle…it’s apparently the one of the right that is causing the trouble. You can also see the nasty bruise still lingering under my thumb which happened we were putting up the drywall framing on the ceiling of the guest house…another month or three and that bad boy should finally be gone.

Unfortunately the repairman didn’t have the part needed in his truck and none of the other repair guys close by had one either so someone will have to come out again next week. Unfortunately that won’t be until next Tuesday afternoon so we’ll be without the machine a while longer. Now I’m debating whether we’ll need to find a laundromat before that time or if we can hold off…I’m seriously thinking laundromat, though. Stefan doesn’t even have clean jeans at this stage which is just terrible.

I do have to give Siemens some credit for their service team, though. First of all, you can set up an appointment to have someone come out to service your appliances completely online which is very cool. They didn’t allow me to enter our particular machine in the system or the repairman would probably have had the piece with him today already. But otherwise he was totally competent and all business about the repair. Of course this is the only Siemens product we have in our house…but it’s almost enough to make you pay more when we buy new appliances.
