Once again it has been very quiet from our side from a while, but mostly that’s only because we have been working so hard on the guesthouse. Friday we took a run to IKEA for the first part of the furniture (we are going back tomorrow for the rest) and the electrician returned with the lackie to put in the shower drain and surprisingly also a bill from Macky. Too sick to call, but not sick enough to not write bills, who know. Hubby just about went berserk when he saw the bill and saw that Macky was charging much more than previously negotiated. What made matters worse, was that the electrician said Macky had told him that he would be out of the hospital by mid of next week – yeah, right spinal injury my foot. Anyways since Macky did everything he did badly and caused us major delays and his guys always showed up unprepared and without tools I guess we need to make a list of our own. At the very least we should calculate tool rental fees and subtract them from his bill, afterall they weren’t very gentle with our tools.

Since the drain has been installed we moved on to fix the hole in the drywall Macky left behind when he had to cut it to fix the weld he had forgotten and finished painting both the bathroom and then bedroom. The colors are fantastic and we are really happy with our choices.

The floor tile is also finished in the bathroom and are ready for grouting tomorrow. Unfortunately, as with everything on this farm, the walls are not exactly right angles – also not the ones Kovey built, do you see a trend here? We ran out of tiles last night and figured our time schedule was shot. Thankfully hubby checked the opening times of the tile store on the web and they where still open – we beat the closing time by 15 minutes.

After finishing all the painting in the bedroom we moved on to laying the laminate. We are using a 5.5mm dampening material under the laminate. It is the thickest we found by far and it is 100% Natural, always a good thing. Unfortunately the click-lock system on the Hornbach brand laminate is not as good as we had hoped, but you get what you pay for. We had hoped to finish the flooring today (I am sure our neighbors loved that idea, first the tile cutting machine, then the miter saw). We got started on the laminate, but with the second row we discovered we needed a little hammer pull kind of tool, pretty basic but we didn’t have one on the farm.

First thing in the morning we’ll need to run to Hagebau for one of those little devices and then the room is mostly ready for move in! Estimated finishing time – including all electronics and such – is now December 19. After checking our original estimate I would say we’re very close – Microsoft Project had projected December 18th as a deadline but that didn’t take into account 7 days of vacation. Who would have thought that even with all the hassles with the contractors we would still finish on time.

We where too busy to take pictures throughout the day and the few we have when we got stopped tonight really don’t do the progress justice – we’ll post pictures tomorrow, we promise.
