During our time living in Germany, and especially after becoming a mother, I really started to look more closely at the labels of what I was putting on and into my body. It became more important to me that the things I consumed were as natural and healthy as possible, so that I could be as vibrant and happy as possible for my family.

I regularly check labels and gravitate towards those that are simple and short, especially when it comes to food. But while it’s typical to think about the pesticides, chemicals and other bad stuff you may find in food, do you give a lot of thought to the beauty and personal hygiene products you use too? Maybe you should.

I personally have avoided most commercial deodorants and antiperspirants for the last few years. And before you start thinking I must have armpits that smell like a jungle woman because I live down here in South Florida, I can happily assure you that is not the case.

Thankfully, about a year ago, I heard about using rubbing alcohol under your arms to kill bacteria and help prevent smells. While it certainly helps control smells on impact, it’s not effective at preventing smells that may develop during the day. I’ll share a secret with you — if I get nervous and/or stressed (like during a big client meeting) I can definitely have less than sexy smelling armpits.

That’s why I always keep armpit ammunition at home and the office. In places like Florida, you may even find yourself leaving a stick deodorant in your car for on the go touchups…And why not, I say?! But you definitely want to make sure it’s not deodorant that is going to melt or leak in your car!

Getting to Know Tom’s of Maine

Not too long ago, I was contacted by Tom’s of Maine. They asked if I would be interested in trying out their line of deodorant, and I was immediately intrigued.

My Thoughts on Tom’s of Maine Deodorant

I have personally tried all of the different types over the last few weeks, and really like them a lot. The range of scents is from no smell to feminine to gender neutral. None of the scents are overwhelming, and will often last several hours with a faint lingering fresh aroma being present under my arms. I like the lemongrass and apricot scents the most at the moment.

I didn’t notice any cakey gunk under my arms from the deodorant stick, although I did get it on a shirt or two. Unfortunately, I am one of those people that just needs to put their deodorant on AFTER I have my shirt on. 🙂

I also like what the company stands for and the fact that they take steps daily to make the world a healthier, better place. They offer a full explanation of all the ingredients, where they are sourced and what they are on their website, and they give time and money back to improving the environment. I think that if we all take one step daily to improve the world and the lives of people around us, we can truly make a difference.
