Our move to Berlin is now only about 3.5 weeks away, and now that a lot of things have been cleared out of the farm, we’re really starting to think about ways that we can make our new apartment fitting for us. Although we’re still waiting for the final signature from the landlord, it already feels like home. Since it’s an incredibly beautiful place without any help from us, so it won’t take much from our side to make it truly incredible. But there are certain things we’ve grown used to doing that are going to be hard habits to shake. Like having a few fresh herbs nearby to use while cooking. Or keeping a bit of lettuce growing in a pot on the balcony for a salad every now and then.

We went to IKEA recently and I was noticing all the very cool ideas they have if you have rods in your kitchen to hang cooking utensils on. With a big dog in the house, I’ve never been too fond of the idea of keeping my cooking spatulas, spoons, ladles, etc hanging on the wall. But I have recently noticed that you can actually put small pots on these racks too. And that’s an idea I totally love!

Here’s what our new kitchen looks like when someone is living in it — although we have nearly ZERO tools that could actually be hung on the wall!

So naturally, I’m thinking about moving in lately and wondering what we’ll end up doing there. As I look at this photo and think back to the kitchen, I actually think I might have enough space beside the sink to do a vertical garden like this:

I also like this idea but am not sure it would work within our kitchen — although I don’t see why you couldn’t put other plants or flowers into it and have it up on a wall anywhere else in the house.

This tiny bucket option is also really cute — but honestly, how small must those buckets be if they are holding them up with a clothes pin? Yes, you can get a few leaves of lettuce out of there — but I just don’t know if this would be practical in the end.
