I was just watching a few of the “get a Mac” commercials after seeing that Jerry Seinfeld will be the new face of Microsoft to give it a “younger, hipper image.” Um, sorry guys but if you haven’t noticed, Jerry Seinfeld is not all that young or hip. Yes, he was really funny (still can be) and had a wildly successful TV show that everyone loved to watch…but it was really popular when I was still in high school – which is now 10 years ago! So perhaps paying him $10 million to revitalize Windows wasn’t the brightest move.

First of all, Mac’s ads feature a guy who is pretty funny without trying to be. He’s that poor kid that got hit in the head with wrenches in Dodgeball and who also got to be in Die Hard 4 with Bruce Willis…but even Bruce Willis is a hipper person to take for the new image! I’m not saying go with Paris Hilton or one of the social reject Pop Tarts that we constantly see everywhere, but there have to be young, intelligent stars out there that the younger generation can relate to and would manage to sell PC’s, right? Or are they all devoted Mac users who refuse to do a commercial for Microsoft? This could be.

I’m sorry. I am a devoted Windows user. I mean it’s not that a love Windows (although I have been using the new Vista on my laptop and have to say I do find it pretty cool) but I have tried out a Mac also and I’m fairly convinced that if I were to have one, I would do something to cause it to meltdown like hitting Crtl+Alt+Del and then end up like Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. Ok sure, they supposedly don’t get viruses and have all these cool features…but why is it that you have to right click everything to open it instead of a double left click? And why is everything so minimalistic when you’re using their software, to the point that I can’t even find things? I mean I don’t need billions of icons and windows when I log on, but something about Macs are just weird.

Yeah, I know you can run the Mac OS on your regular PC and vice versa…but what’s the point? If I switch, it’s all or nothing. I think by now most of the software packages don’t care which you have as long as you buy the right one…but I’d have to start all over again with everything…and quite honestly, something drastic is going to need to happen before I’m ready to make that jump.
