The kitchen is that part of your house that doesn’t require much upgrading, unfortunately. After all, most people would think about the kitchen as the least likely place to update. This probably has something to do with the fact that it’s not as important as the living room.
While that may be true, the kitchen still needs a good makeover from time to time. For one, it’s where you cook your meals and wash the dishes. It should be where utmost cleanliness is observed, so it makes sense to rejuvenate it using these important tips:
Get a countertop
If you don’t have one as of now, it would be a great addition to your kitchen. The countertop is basically where you have your coffee sessions while you wait for the chicken to cook in the oven. It’s also where you prepare nutritious salads.
With the being said, you can install countertops that are easy to clean. Wooden countertops are always great a choice, but you still have to worry about staining them with sticky material such as cookie dough. A better choice would be stone or ceramic countertops, specifically granite or porcelain. Marble is also a beautiful and durable choice, and there is a large variety of looks that are easy to install and easy to clean.
Give a new coat of paint
Do you know what best changes the appearance of any room? That’s right! The choice of a great paint color can transform your kitchen. Not only does a new coat of paint give your kitchen a fresher look, it also gives it a new personality.
Depending on the overall style you are pursuing, you can choose cooler colors that will definitely improve comfort. For a start, you might want to consider painting the walls with blue to make it stand out more. Blue also works well if you have white cabinets. And speaking of cabinets…
Update your fixtures
Your cabinets are not just there for storing cups and saucers. They can also improve the way your kitchen looks, if not make it new. If your cabinets are beginning to peel, you might want to update them with a coat of varnish. Also, make sure that the hinges are in good condition.
The same should be true of wooden material. If your cabinets are beyond repair — or at the point of being overrun by termites — you might as well change them out for new ones.
Bring in some plants
Plants have an almost therapeutic effect. Having them around the kitchen can make any cooking session less hectic or stressful. A good idea is to place potted plants along the window sills. You can also hang plants on the walls. This will surely give life to your inside space.
Pictures and portraits
Another effective way to decorate your kitchen is to hang artwork on the walls. Whether it’s a still life picture of fruit, or a post-modernist composition made up of geometric shapes, giving your kitchen an artsy vibe will definitely enable you to cook in style!
Apply these tips and you will surely create a kitchen that’s as functional as it is attractive.
Tiffany, Regarding countertops I have to add something about Marble. Marble is softer than granite and can absorb stains if it is not sealed. I think marble is amazing and beautiful, but if you are a lover of red wine and tomato sauce, this can be risky.
Some quartz companies have material that looks like marble and wont stain or need sealing
